Kinman pickups on a Squire?

Right, so I bought a squire strat purely because I liked the colour and because is cost me 60 quid. I was kinda shocked that it turned out very nice to play.

So... Will putting a decent set of pickups on it (I'm thinking Kinmans) be worth my time and money? Or is it more complicated than just putting good pickups on a cheap guitar to make it sound good?

    Cheers

Replacing the stock p'ups will definitely improve the tone, replacing all the electrics will improve things even further. There's loads of sites that will sell you whole kits - pots, caps & wiring etc so if you like how she plays and are handy with the old soldering iron it would be a wortwhile investment.

There's two to give you an idea of whats available, buying the bits & bobs yourself seperately would probably be cheaper again.

One last thing -have you checked the p'ups are stock? The previous owner might have done a bit of tinkering already!

ha no i'm pretty positive the pickups are stock. ive never done anything with a soldering iron before... how badly can that go wrong?

do you know if something like the lipstick neck pickup off a tele would work on the strat? i'm thinking of trying a few different things now...

Put Kinmans on a Squire, you'll have a really great guitar. You can't beat Kinmans. They will send you the pick-ups pre-wired so no soldering required. I installed mine myself easily with no previous experience. It'll cost you extra of course. And you'll probably have to buy directly from Kinman. The pickups will end up costing you more than 3 or 4 times what you payed for the guitar (!) but it'll be worth it.

I have a set of Woodstock Plus on my Mex Strat and it's a beast. Squires are just as good as MIMs anyway when they're well set up.

And no, tele lipstick pups won't fit the strat. Well, it is possible with some ****ing around but the cavities are the wrong size as they are.
