Well know what have we got here.

Plans for celebrating International Men’s Health Week (MHW) in Ireland are progressing well. The Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) convened an inter-agency exploratory meeting in February to look at what might be possible, and loads of great ideas were generated. This meeting brought together workers from a diverse range of sporting, health and community-based initiatives throughout Ireland. MHFI is very grateful for the enthusiasm, creativity and resourcefulness of all these bodies, and for their offer to look at how Men’s Health Week can be marked in their own work situations. Please remember to get this week into you diary (Monday 14th to Sunday 20th June 2010) and to think about ways to celebrate it. The theme for this year will be “Males and Physical Activity”. This focus lends itself to a wide range of ways to mark this occasion, but please remember that you don’t have to stick rigidly to this particular topic. Anything which encourages men and boys to lead healthier lifestyles, to be more aware of preventable health problems, and to seek early detection and treatment for health difficulties will be welcome!

Men's Health Week (MHW) always begins on the Monday before Father's Day and ends on Father's Day itself. This year it will run from Monday 14th June until Sunday 20th June 2010.
The overall aim of MHW is to heighten awareness of preventable male health problems, and to encourage early detection and treatment of health difficulties for men and boys. Each year, there is also a focus upon a specific theme. The theme for this year will be: "Men and Physical Activity".
One of the biggest risks to men’s health is their reluctance to seek help at times of difficulty or to take part in health improvement programmes. This is often because these services and programmes are not delivered in ways that take account of men’s particular needs.

MHW gives everyone (health professionals, service providers, sporting bodies, community groups, employers, policy makers, the media, individuals ...) an opportunity to encourage men and boys to take better care of their health and to seek help or treatment at an early stage.
The Men's Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) coordinates activity on the island of Ireland and cooperates with other Men's Health Fora across Europe, and further afield, to mark this week.
