Just watching him on The Late Late Show and he has ten people on stage, all of whom are allegedly hypnotised, doing a great performance of the 9th symphony.

Is he a rogue or is there any basis to this hypnotism malarkey?

    Oh hypnotism is definitely real.
Don't know how there's any doubt behind it!

I would instinctively have thought that but it's very risky to do that in a society as small as this: he's bound to be caught out.

Look, most eejits in this country believed that FF were the only party to keep us the envy of Europe. The same people probably believe that this charlatan is a hypnotist! Don't spoil their weekend entertainment! :D

The best quote about him is on here in a different forum.. "Keith Barry, the poor man's Derren Brown"!
He's not even good at pretending he thinks he good. John Jo is more talented!!

Dunno if the RTE thing was real, but i was at one of his live shows, and he did something simular to me on stage. Couldn't remember a thing, was like waking up but not feeling tired.

Didn't believe a word of what my friends said he made me do, untill i saw the videos. Crazy stuff.

    Lean ar aghaidh/Go on ...;)

Someone would make much more by doing an exposé than whatever he's paying them. I reckon it's real.

Nice boobies on the blonde one btw! :D

    whist!

Paul Brady is giving a rendition of Arthur McBride live on the Late Late now. Amazing! (even without Andy Irvine)

an A/H for sure, thats Ass/H not After/H, saw a few of those people with smirks, a pure set up imo. he is not that s**t hot.

Yeah, but playing a guitar on the Late Late is a different form of entertainment to getting ten persons to act like eejits on the same show. Basically, if he was a chancer he would have been discredited and not on such shows. But he is, so ....?

    I beg to differ =P

Oh it's definately real alright but you don't go under by some guy asking you to look in his eyes for like three seconds and then chucking on your arm!

I know his cousin so Im inclined to believe he's real :) anyway I'll shatt be going to see him soon so i'll make up my mind then

People here believe what they want to believe. It's easier that way...

The man is a stale cut price Darren Brown.. ripping off something that went out of fashion a few years ago when most people realised it was nonsense.

Stage hypnotism relies on suggestibility, peer pressure and a selection process. Before the show the performer will start out with the full audience, asking people to stand up if they're xyz, or getting them to do stuff (pretend they're a chicken etc).

Basically its a selection process, the 'hypnotist' will be watching peoples reactions and rejecting some and selecting others. At the end of it you've got the 10 most suggestible eejits or weak-willed in the audience. Put them up on stage and they'll do whatever you say.

Hypnotism is very much real. Do some reading on how it actually works and you will see the techniques that Keith Barry used tonight. Was it entertaining? Not at all in my opinion but it was very much real. People who tend to instantly say they were actors are usually clueless as to how hypnotism works.

First off I knew one of the people on that tonight, definetly not an actor. Its not a set up.

Second whats up with comments like 'poor mans Derren Brown'? Derren Brown is the worst of the lot of them, f*cker made a huge deal about predicting the lotto...then just read the results out after the draw!!

Either way its dead boring and cringey to watch. Wouldnt ever let someone try to hypnotise me though.

I fell asleep during it, so I'd say for sure its real.

Rebel I was just thinking the same thing watching the show..I missed the first bit but I'm guessing he asked random people (whoever put their hands up?) to come on stage. I spent the rest of the time wondering if they were 'acting'! I saw a couple of them trying not to laugh and I think a few made a mistake... Barry was saying they were gonna play instruments after the count of 3 but some of them started before he even finished saying that..he had to repeat 'only start after the count of 3'!
It just seemed staged to me...maybe I would just have to experience it to believe it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

It was fake - he touched one person to fall asleep and the person next to the person he touched fell asleep as well as the person he touched (and then he said only go to sleep if touch you, to try and cover it up)

    Soooo stupid

To my recollection he didn't attempt to shake their hands...just chucked on their arms!

Went to a hypnostist before for a problem I had (opens doors for slagging lol)
He said that if there is 10 people on stage then that means that more than likely they tried 100 people and only a few the hypnosis actually works on.
Only thing that bugs me about keith Barry is that he is from Waterford but doesnt have a waterford accent.:mad:

Definately a poor mans derren brown. Went to his show recently and while i'm a big fan of derren brown (yes I know none of it's real :-) )
He basically copied all his tricks, acted like they were his own original ideas that no-one has ever thought of before, and yet managed to mess them up so badly. It really was cringeworthy.

i have a hard time believing in hypnotism but during rag week this week in ul they had a hypnotist and he used students and got them to do wierd **** i couldnt see a bunch of students keeping their mouth shut about being paid to act

also i believe that if it is true that only certain people are susceptible

he is a decent magician though here is his ted 'talk'
