Possibly getting jobseekers allowance cutoff

I missed some fas interviews because the social welfare office first sent the interview letter to my previous address. Then I never received the next letter as it either never arrived in my letterbox or it got thrown out with the mountain of junk mail which makes up 99% of the mail we get in this apartment.

My jobseekers allowance was suspended because I missed these interviews and I sent in a letter of appeal explaining what happened. This letter was forwarded to the Social Welfare Appeals Office. I have been getting emergency payments since then for the last few weeks from the local CWO. However last week they told me my appeal had been successful and so they wouldn't pay me. A lady in the social welfare office also confirmed that my appeal had been successful but for some reason they didn't have a payment for me so she told me to go back to the cwo to get paid for that week, and that the jobseekers allowance should be switched back on this week.

Well it never showed up this week either and when i went into the social welfare office I was told that the claim/appeal had been turned down because I missed too many interviews and they believe I'm not looking for work (nevermind there are no jobs in the country anyway), which is not what I was told the previous week. I told the lady at the counter this and she said she would get a supervisor to ring me this evening to talk about it.

There is no question that I would've attended the interviews if I had've received the letters notifying me of them.

I find it ludicrous that there are people in this country with a string of convictions for serious crimes like rape and murder who are getting jobseekers allowance, whereas they are about to cut me off for missing some interviews that I didn't even know about.

So what I want to know is can I actually have my jobseekers allowance cut off because I missed some interviews that I never even knew were taking place? And is there any come back from that or am I just supposed to go out and live on the streets? Because I have zero cash and have 3K credit card debt. What are my options? Cheers.

What a mess. But, if you don't keep Social Welfare informed of your current address, and throw post away, you can hardly blame Social Welfare for being under the impression that you are not actively seeking employment.

So Monday morning - get down to SW office first thing and make a new claim for Jobseeker's Allowance.Keep evidence of jobs you are applying for - because with your record you will most likely be rigorously checked. Return to your CWO and see about making a claim for supplementary welfare. And.... (in the nicest possible way).... lose some of the attitude.

It is your responsibility to keep Social Welfare informed of any change in circumstances, and if you move address you have to let them know.

That is beside the point - one of the conditions of payment is you are working for work, and just saying there are no jobs in the country is not reason not to be looking. You need to show SW, if it is ever requested, that you have been job seeking, and your payment can be stopped if not.

You need to go down to Social Welfare, if your claim is closed reapply, and then go back to CWO for supplementary welfare allowance.
