Hi , I'm in Mayo for Easter with the family - anyone know if there are any races (any distance from 5k up to half) in the West over Easter ?
    Many thanks

Have a look at the racepix calendar. There are a few up and down from you.

If you don't want to go as far as Sligo there's Kilmovee 10k on Easter Monday... the flattest 10k in Ireland according to the athenry website...

    http://www.athenryac.com/kilmovee-10km-flattest-10k-ireland.

Kilmovee is eh.... somewhere in Mayo :D

    The race website is http://www.kilmoveerace.com/

thanks a million to everyone ( especially Littlebug)for troubling to reply

Best of luck. Let us know how you get on. It's a tempting one given the alleged "flatness" but I'll be away that weekend myself... and it probably wouldn't be a good idea the week before Connemara.

cheers ! What do you think the standard will be like ? ( good luck in Connemara - half or full ?)

It's hard to know.... they're fast those Mayo lads  but there was a very small field in the Ballinrobe 8k last week (which was won by speedy44 of these parts). The elevation, or lack of, might attract people up from athenry or galway and its environs.. so who knows. I would say there'll be some fit4life people too. I imagine there'll be a nice mixture.
I'm doing the half in Connemara... slowly ;)

standard will be pretty good , good club runners over that direction , imfromroscommon and always try to go west to mayo and galway for races , amazing what 40 miles west does to the standard in a race , would be doing that race only for already registered for lisadell , also race in kilmovee is AAI certified per athenry ac website , good luck, will be checking in on times run there when results come out

Brobe 8km is not AI sanctioned and it also clashed with the CrossCountry in Sligo. We were missing a few of the regular Mayo crew who have run it in the past. Our numbers would not reflect on what you might expect anywhere else as we promote more as a fun run as we are taking small steps at a time. ;)

Kilmovee is getting plenty of promotion so numbers should be good

Ersoh sorry if sounded like I was criticising... I wasn't- it sounds like a great race! I was just making the point that with the clashes some of the usual suspects might also be missing from the business end of things in Kilmovee. If I can ever manage to get a bit of fire in me boots I might join you down there next year. I think we're spoilt for choice with races in the West at the minute which can't be a bad thing.

Not taken as criticism at all. We were delighted to get the number we had especially with the clashes and the fact we not affiliated with AI. You are right there is plenty of choice but I hope Kilmovee get the support as they have put in a big effort.
