I am hoping to start a new business something along the lines of the home parties idea (ann summers, Tupperware) sort of thing. The reps do the party and give me the orders I will get the items drop shipped to them and they give the orders out to the people who were at the party the party.

I just dont know should the reps be self employed and pay there own tax etc from the money they earned from the party. I am just about to register the company is it as a sole trader i do this ??? should i reg. for vat ???.

    Any help would great

    Hi

This is a very complex issue and you need to speak at length with a professional to get the definitive answer.

Whether or not you are self employed is dependant of the facts of the agreement you have drawn up with the individuals.

For instance do they organise the parties themselves, are they free to work for other people, who bears the risk of the event not making any money etc.

However it does initially sound to me like they would be classified as self employed. In this case the reps would be responsible for their own taxes and not you.

You would register for VAT once you exceed or are likely to exceed the threshold for registration. For the supply of goods it is €75k sales per annum.

    Kind Regards

    Hi dbran,

    Thanks for your reply

The reps would get there own parties in and if any parties came in through me or my web site (when i get it up and going) i will pass them on to the reps. They could do this as a second job for extra cash or there only job, its up to them.

When i start a rep i will supply them with the kit for parties witch will remain mine and they give back to me if they want to leave.

As regards making money if they dont get out and get parties they dont make money. If there is a rep who is doing no parties and not looking like they are doing enough work to get some i can take the kit back of them and give it to someone who wants to work.

This is a rough idea of how i am thinking of doing things

    Thanks again
