SUSPECTED CASE OF DOGS BEING DUMPED IN OAKLAWN LEIXLIP

    Hi all,

Before I give any details of this case I want to say if I am wrong then I do apologize.

Last night at approx. 11 pm 2 dogs started to bark in a cul de sac near my estate. Their bark sounded stressed and continued relentlessly. When I went around to the estate I discovered 2 dogs running in and out of people's gardens. They were clearly stressed, frightened and bewildered. I spoke to a resident of the cul de sac and they said they'd never seen either dog before!

Both were panting from stress. One was a black and white long-haired Greyhound, the other was a brown and white English Springer Spaniel. They were both very friendly and were responding to kindness immediately.

Now to my mind 2 dogs do not just appear in an estate, a cul de sac at that, unknown to the residents barking frantically unless they've had help! I feel they were dumped by their owner who couldn't care less what came of them and by dumping them in an estate was hoping someone else would pick up the pieces.

IF ANYONE SEES THEM HAVE A HEART AND GIVE THEM A SMALL AMT OF FOOD AND WATER. THEN CALL THE ISPCA OR THE DOG WARDEN. I HAVE ALREADY NOTIFIED THE GARDAI.

It would be terrible if these 2 lovely dogs ended up under a car.

    Keep your eyes peeled.

    Thanks in advance.

You need to contact your local council dog warden, they'll come and take the dogs.
Happened to me before and I rang DSPCA for an injured dog which showed up on my road but they couldn't get to me that day.

Kildare pound had an 83% PTS rate in 2008 so if they go there then they are more than likely not coming out. http://www.environ.ie/en/Publications/LocalGovernment/DogControl/

Any local rescues? Kildare animal foundation?

You might try posting this over on PetsIreland.

Can you not bring them to a rescue?

I didn't manage to get hold of the dogs. It was dark, raining and they were literally all over the place. So as I was going home they did follow for a while but then just doubled back the way they had come.

The only saving grace, though I'm having to look hard, is that they were together, they weren't thin and although it was raining it wasn't cold.

I volunteer for Dogs In Distress and I know first hand that if they do end up at Ashtown pound they'll be well looked after, walked by the volunteers and will be rehomed either through DID or a specialist rescue organization.

I just hope they're alright and my eyes are peeled in the meantime.

But Ashton is the Dublin City Pound, you won't get the warden there to come to Kildare to take dogs?? If someone in Leixlip calls the warden as you asked it'll be the warden for Kildare that will take them and Kildare pound they'll go to where no rescue group operates out of.

If you manage to get hold of them yourself then I'm sure DID will be able to help. Fingers crossed they show up soon.
