Classic TV Mauling of Ciaran Cuffe TV3

Tonight with Vincent Browne 25th March 2010

Classic Political Mauling tonight on Vincent Browne, either love or hate him he really knows how to wind up politicians. Tonight’s Victim was a squirming Ciaran Cuffe, it was a TV classic. Vincent was relentless in his pursuit of answers, at one stage I thought Cuffe was going to cry or walk off set. Cuffe had the face of a man who is embarrassed or ashamed to be a part of this diabolical government.
We later found out the reason for Vincent’s venom and onslaught, Cuffe refused to go on the show is Patricia Mc Kenna was invited on at the same time; in fact Vincent accused Cuffe of bullying TV3 in relation to who it invites onto its panel. The bizarre excuses and justifications Cuffe gave for this cosy sweet deal for resolving ministerial posts further highlighted how out of touch gormless and crew actually are. I once had some respect for the greens, but this performance and almost contempt from Cuffe tonight evaporated and respect this voter had.
Say what you like, there is no other presenter who matches the skills of Browne when it comes to seeking accountability from politicians. Excellent entertainment and I normally despise all that is TV3

It was quite astonishing to watch, i knew at the outset Vincent was pissed over something and sure enough Cuffe had refused to go on if Patricia MC Kenna was on the panel.

It really opened my eyes on the greens, just can't believe whats happening to the greens, they are falling apart. I'm no lover of politics generally but once thought this party had a little integrity. I was actually laughing at cuffes answers which only annoyed Vincent Browne more, felt sorry for the other 2 panelists, they were barely asked a question. Great stuff to watch all the same, i can just see the greens playing back video on this unbelievable performance at their conference this weekend!

It was the funniest thing I've seen on tv for a long time. I spent most of the interview with my head buried in my hands peeking at the tv through my fingers. It was like watching Borat in terms of embarassment for Cuffe. I can't stand Browne's tabloid approach to journalism but he was a star last night. I can't believe that this is the quality of politican sitting at the cabinet table and the arrogance around not appearing if Patricia McKenna was going to be on the panel is stunning. I'm sure he is a competent guy but he just came across as a complete twat. He was nervous throughout, swivelling on his chair and nervously laughing trying to apper confident while Browne spun him inside out.

Not that I have any fondness for FF but they appear to be evil geniuses by being able to ultimately destroy the parties they go into a coalition with. First the PD's and now the Greens. Hopefully they'll go into a coalition with SF some time in the future.

Yes indeed it is what we need a hell of alot more off. It was quite simply an astonishingly bad performance by Cuffe, in fact i got the impression of a small boy who knew he had done wrong and was attempting to hide the fact. His responses to the questions where just unbelievable and naive. I also got an impression from him that he is pissed with gormless and i suspect his new ministerial role won't be lasting too long.

Do TV3 have any kind of "player" service where you would get a repeat of this? Vincent is the man.

I'm watching it now on the tv3 website and its funny as hell. Usually VB is addled and wrongheaded but on this occassion he was laser-like in his precise dissecting of Cuffes waffle. It showed up the Greens to be the useless shambles that they are.

Its actually funnier the second time around, LOL, won't be long before this features on face book. I reckon poor Cuffe will be keeping a low profile at this weekends green conference.:D

Perhaps we could see a mauling of Fianna Fail over the coming weeks the people who got us into this mess. Not saying that the Greens should not get attacked but we all seem to think that the Greens were in government from 1997 - 2007. No the Greens aren't living in Cloud Cuckoo land unlike their Coalition partners who are most definitely there, for at least 70 odd years.

This is classic...so the Greens view ministries as important as summer jobs in the US.

    That's cringeworthy.

    Vincent really laid it in.

It was bad but not quite to the extent that some posters are making out. Cuffe went on the defensive too early and just ended up getting Vincent's back up. That summer job analogy was probably the low point of the interview. If there were two stronger panalists on with Vincent then things could have got really uncomfortable for Cuffe. As it was you might as well have had two cardboard cut outs in the chairs.

Come on! are you seriously suggesting this was not an appalling display of ignorance and quite frankly stupidity from one of the greens founding members, my god, you think at this stage he would have considered some media training. I am just aghast at the continuing debacle that is the greens. I once thought this party could offer some hope but their continuing fumbling on any and all issues is becoming an embarrassment.

Vincents back was actually put up by Cuffes demand that Patricia MC Kenna not be allowed to be on the panel, Vincent justifiably called it Bullying.

I am from Dun Laoghaire and to be honest i am mortified this is what is representing the constituency.

It was absolutely priceless to watch last night. I love how Vincent Browne rarely lets people away with waffling, and my god did Ciarán Cuffe waffle. Ciarán posted on twitter
licking my wounds after #vinb last night, never do media when you're tired
I can only imagine he's mortified.

and Mary Hanafin and Barry Andrews Don't? 3 ministers from the one Constituency!!!

I certainly did not vote for this clown, my point being he managed to get elected to represent my constituency, yes its democratic but still immensely embarrassing!

As someone who did actually hope for better from the greens in government, i am just shocked at their ineptitude. I have seen more coherence from the wombles than this party since they got into power, their press briefings, interviews, conferences etc are cringe inducing. I am just amazed (or perhaps not, power and all that) that the greens have not said enough is enough and had some integrity and pulled out of government. They just seem to be digging themselves a bigger hole daily and after cuffes performance i have little sympathy. Time for this party to go back to the drawing board i think.

And your views on the wonderful Mary Hanafin and Barry Andrews? Or did you vote for them?

I would not be embarrassed by the Greens much more to be embarrassed by Cowen and Coughlan our so called leaders.

It is a pity the Irish Media don't take a look of what is happening across the EU.

Why all the focus on Ireland? Manifestos prior to the last election were fantasy.

Irish People paid crazy prices were property. It was an obsession.

Yet rather than take responsibily for it - they look for scapegoats.

What was the name of the overseas property show TV3 did?

It was similar to Househunders in the sun?

But you will never see the media taking responsibility for this type of programming.
