Switching form UPC to Sky

Hi everyone,

I have upc in the house. I have tv, broadband and phone with them. However I want to switch to Sky for the HDTV, but I was wondering is it possible for me to cancel my tv subscription with upc and keep the broadband and phone but move to Sky for the tv???

Or do I have to cancel everything with upc (believe me if I would I could but its not up to me:() and move to eircom for phone and broadband and then to sky for tv??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Im going the opposite way and moving to UPC!!

HD is good but not worth the price..Anyway you can downgrade the upc to keep phone and broadband but it will cost you, as you wont be getting 'a deal'

Do you have a bundle at the moment with UPC to include all 3 services??

I think broadband and phone costs about 57euro for the 15mb fibre package..quite steap when you add that to whatever your getting on sky +HD package

I dont know weather its a bundle or not with upc but I know the bill is roughly about €100 - €110 each month for everything with them. And comparing prices from that of sky I think sky works out cheaper...also the hassle with upc lately is terrible. Channels keep freezing and lately the broadband seems to be abit slow and trying to get through them and explain, well lets just say you'd want a day off from work alone for that!!

I'm after hearing and seeing quite alot of good things about sky lately hence my interest to switch.

So I can remove upc tv and install sky, but do sky need something to do with a phone line and if so is the current upc phone line a tv or telephone line???

You should be still entitled to the Fibre Web deal as an existing customer, €45, which is still better value than Eircom can even come close to offering. Their premier deal is €75 compared to €60 for UPC and with UPC you get faster broadband and free interntional calls to 21 countries.

Was also considering switching to Sky for the HD and Interactive Champions League and Heineken Cup but currently my TV setup with UPC costs €68, were I to want the same with Sky I'd have to pay €115.49. I'll go without the extra HD and Interactive for the time being.

Yes, you can keep the UPC phone and Broadband, but you will need to pay an extra €8 per month if you don't get TV.

UPC basically give you €8 off if you get both BB and TV from them.

BTW Sky + Eircom works out way more expensive the UPC.

For instance
Sky 6 Packs: €32 (no sky sports or espn sports)
Sky HD: €15
Eircom Phone + 8mb BB: €62
Total: €109

With UPC for just €95 you could get Fibre Ultimate which includes:
UPC TV HD
Sky Sports
ESPN Sports
Phone + unlimited world wide calls
15 mb BB

€14 per month cheaper and gives you way more then Sky + Eircom

Or alternatively
UPC TV HD
Phone
15 mb BB
Total €76.75

That gives you twice the broadband speed and works out €32.25 per month cheaper then sky/Eircom or €387 per year more expensive!

Fair enough you do get extra HD channels with Sky, but I don't think it is worth €387

BTW You don't say which package you are going to get, so the above are just some examples, if you let us know what TV package you want to get and what sort of BB needs you have I could give you a more realistic comparison. Also do you need multiroom, UPC are much cheaper for multiroom.

thats sounds if you have a problem with the service and if you change your still going to be left with the broadband problem ,so you ll still have to get them out , if the pics are freezing that would suggest that there is a break or crack in the cable that would also explain the slow speeds
