Why are we not allowed to insult people on boards?

Why do I get in trouble for calling someone a homophobe as a punchline to a hilarious joke inverting the whole idea of homophobia, making the world a better place and single handedly resulting in the election of americas first black president and ushering universal healthcare for everybody thereby ending the need for the military-industrial-complex.

"free at last, free at last thank lord almighty we're free at last"
    - Sound of all the African Americans I've helped.

But if you were to phrase the insult as a question you can get away with it e.g. your typing makes you sound like a drug addict/gaybles

All insults should be okay, like in the real world, we can all learn to ignore idiots. It'll be a major step in the evolution of the internet.

Think about it, because forums are moderated there is a tacit acceptance that all things said on there are viewed as okay by some people. Hence trolls are fed.

If we transcend the surly bonds of censorship and create a bright world in which we decide for ourselves what is okay and what is and what isn't too offensive/silly to respond to do we not turn into Gods ourselves? Does everyone not become an admin?

    Well said.

    Too bad it's gibberish.

No thanks, most threads would then take about 3 posts before they would turn into nothing but slagging matches.

I dont mean to insult any threads, or people in them, but that place is bubbling over with sexual tension, the wrong kind of sexual tension.

The kind that makes jesus very sad.

    Nope.

The place is what it is because it's moderated (semi) strictly. Otherwise it'd be pages and pages of shite to trawl through to have a coversation. You'd want to see what the screen looks like to a mod. Full of deleted spam and edits/deletions all over the place. 99.9% of it is complete drivel by either spammers or spas.

If you like freedom to say what you want, try 4chan. If you want the freedom to express your point in a way that can be debated and discussed, you're there.

That's the point, we would learn to ignore it, and if we were all to ignore them they would lose their power.

Is 4chan not like that because it is one of the only places in the internet that is so loosely modded? It attracts the trolls and those who want to shock and people who want to be shocked.

If everywhere was modded as laxly as 4chan would we all not get used to it? Would the lepers not disperse across the internet and be rehabilitated into society?

4Chan is a great site imo. It's an easy target for the over modded snobs on some boards.

Why can't we insult people directly?

    A) You do not know that person.
    B) That person may actually be gay or homosexual (for the instance where you called someone homophobic)
    C) People are entitled to have a conversation or a logical debate without idiots slagging each other
    D) You sure as hell wouldn't do it in the street so get the hell off your mighty high horse there Mr. Ninja Keyboards Warrior.

If you're in favour of an online environment like 4chan or the likes then by all means do us a favour and gallop on your horse over there.

If you can't stick to the rules, we don't want you here. Simple really.

Would you like to trawl through pages of squabbling and swear words in a potentially meaningful discussion, it just wouldn't work.

That's a lie if ever I heard one.

Sorry but freedom is limited on Boards.ie.

I think cracked.com put it best "4chan: a place for quick witted, freedom loving, internet detectives. Or how everyone else on the internet refers to them "tentacle child porn enthusiasts".

People say things to fellow human beings online that they wouldn't dare dream of saying in real life. I'm sure it must be very liberating at first but the novelty soon wears off. Leave it to the angries.

    That's bullsh!t

If you stay (relatively) on topic, and aren't being a total cnut, you can say what you want. It's not that hard.

Is boards not part of the real world?

Seriously, the internet is just a communication medium ffs, it's not some alternate reality where you can vent your anger by insulting random people.

I've never held back saying what I want on Boards, ever. I just construct what I say it in a civil way.
