Oh man, this was a fanboys wet dream! :D
Twas like The Matrix and 300...but with ninjas!! :D

Great action and set pieces, loads of (imo High quality) CGI blood, body parts, throw stars, fights, kicks....had a bit of everything. I heard blurb saying it lacked plot...or a script.

But i thought it did ok, had more backstory then expected, main story was a little bare but overall it was bloody good fun!

I'm not a ninja fan per se, but it was real entertaining! :)

total chop-socky flick! This was a mildly entertaining, park your brain in neutral, and try to watch the murkily shot bloodbath. It's a good thing they sell fake blood by the gallon. :D

Shame that fake blood is generated by a computer these days.

I really enjoy shut your brain off OTT action/violent films like 300 and rambo but found this to be pretty terrible, not even enjoyable in that sense. The whole
"heart being on the other side"
crap was so cheesy, and not in the good way

If you compare the CGI blood to 300 or Spartacus....it looks much higher quality, the physics of the blood/CGI looked more real and "fluid".

It had some fantastic Matrix style "bullet time" throwing star action + a sequence 100% ripped/copied from 300. J. Michael Strachzinski co-wrote the screenplay + The Matrix Warchowski brothers as producer + Joel Silver.

It's a legit medical condition though, check the IMDB page.

Is the CGI blood as bad as Blood the last vampire (anime version wayyyy better :D)

I enjoyed this, Matrix style ninjas is a good description, I did get hacked off in the end with the cgi blood but the throwing star scenes made up for it and the obligatory final battle was good too!

I would disagree, I think CGI blood, especially in Ninja Assassin, tends to look TOO fluid. Especially the latest craze of always doing gunshot wounds with CGI. It's the one thing that always bugs me when I watch The Devil's Rejects. Fantastic movie, riddled with these moments that completely take away from the grittyness of the film.

To be honest, it probably works in Ninja Assassin for one reason, that the film is OTT and comic book in style and it therefore somehow fits.

Zombie has said that his biggest regret on Devil's was not using all practical effects. It really does take you out of the film which is a shame as it is easily one of the best films in recent years. It's exactly the type of film Tarantino set out to make and failed so miserably with in Death Proof.

Well you could tell Tarantino's Death Race was doomed to failure when it was accidentally released as Death Proof. Don't have much hopes for a film when they can't even get the name right.

Sorry, was watching Death Race as I typed, having a DavidCarradine and Corey Hai9m weekend.

    Nice weekend!

Yeah you're right about Rejects/Death Proof. And bringing it back to Ninja Assassin, though the CGI blood fit in well enough, I'd imagine more old school effects would've guaranteed it a more lasting place. As it is it'll fizzle as a good six pack and crisps flick but had there been a more labour intensive focus on practical effects it's remain known as "the film with the bloodbath"

Sounds like a silly thing to judge a film over but it's important to me anyway!

Deathproof was utter drivvel, I persnally think that he has lost it at this stage. Loved Planet Terror though

Agree, Ninja Assassin was a fantastic action flick, amazing musical outro at the end of the movie lasting for around 2mins, just before the scrolling credits start!!!

Thought it was just about watchable, nearly turned it off a few times but for some reason kept watching until the end.

And what more would you expect from a film about Ninjas.

Put it this way, what do you expect from a Ninja movie from the guy who shot the ending of the Invasion?

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I just seen Ninja Assassin last night.

What an awesome movie, the story was a bit fluff at times, but that's what you get when you re-write in 2 days a few weeks before shooting.

But the action, violence, blood, swords, throwing stars and NINJA'S make up for any holes in the story/dialogue. A really impressive movie to watch. Even the missus enjoyed it and she normally hates that type o' movie.

A fun movie, not much more. But when I turn on a film called Ninja Assassin, fun is all I want.

    Loved this movie.

Went in with no expectations, thought it was a cheap Chinese action movie, had a great time.

The end sequence is one of the most impressive i've seen....and not just for the music. I hope we see a sequel.

Sho Kosugi is still the Daddy when it comes to sword work.

Hard to believe the "hero" ninja was a boyband guy and not a martial arts guy.
His "brother" and enemy, Rick Yune, was Olympic level at Tae Kwon Do but doesn't look that much better in the fight scenes.
