Using sky dish for freeview in monaghan

    Hi guys,

I'm living in monaghan v. close to border with NI, so when moving into house i got tv's with digital tuner to be able to pick up freeview. Also picked a freesat box. I had a spare LNB running from my sky dish so hooked this into the cable running to one of the "non Sky" rooms. When I tuned the tv (32" LG with digital tuner) in I made sure to set the country selection as UK. However all the digital channels I picked up were the RTE DTV & radio channels. I hooked up the Freesat box as well and could not pick up a signal. Any ideas why I cant pick the freeview/freesat.

    Tks

Firstly freeview is terrestrial so needs an aerial not a dish. If the freesat box does not work when connected correctly then there is probably no satellite signal present in the coax cable, this could be caused by a number of factors.

    Hope this helps

Do you have sat dish and aerial connected to same cable?
If you do then you need a special sat/aerial combiner/splitter pair of devices.

Freeview/RTE DTT (Saorview) are for connection to Aerial only.
Freesat is for connection to Satellite Dish only.

tks guys, it looks like a problem with the coax cable running from the lnb in attic to the tv point in the room i wanted to put the freesat box in, freesat works fine in the other rooms.on a related matter can the coax cables that sky provide for their boxes be bought anywhere, the freesat box didn't have any with it and I had to butcher an old cable to test

    tks

Yes you can buy good quality cable from many retailers in Ireland, check out the supplier sticky thread.

Check out the Stickys as Tony Said.
There may also be links to some decent suppliers from boards in their signatures.
But Tony can't tell you that :)
