Hi folks, due to some "misadventures" my iphone's been dropped a couple of times!

nothing that effects operation but the case around the headphone jack is smashed, the case has split so I can now see inside the top of the iphone through a little gap

the thing is I know if it's dropped again it's a doomed! plus if it rain's i'm likewise in trouble

it's an 8GB 3g and I have the monthly insurance on it

    what should I do?

Check what your insurance covers for a start. If you can get a replacement on your insurance, then why not - that's why you're paying for insurance in the first place. :)

I have the phonecover from o2 and had no problem making a claim. Gave me a replacement phone and collected/dropped off the phone to work for me.

Just make sure if you're making a claim that you dont say you dropped it a few times. This more than likely wouldnt be covered. They'll only cover it if the damage is from one event.

i'd definite claim if my phone was in that bad shape,
what i'd do though just to save any sort of messing around though is say you lost it.

If you make your claim here is my story from 2 weeks ago. I got a call from phonecover after sending in my claim. They asked me if I wanted to upgrade to the 3GS (as mine was only 3G) for only €100 extra. They proceeded to tell me how much better the 3GS was and that I wouldn't be tied into another contract. They aslo told me I could have the 3GS the following day where the 3G would take longer. I declined their offer as I had already asked about the availability of the 3G through O2 and was told they are out of stock. Anyway a new 3GS arrives two days later. Happy days...

I don't have insurance on my phone but isn't this whole insurance thing open to wholesale abuse, like what if I sell on my 3G and then claim that I lost it and then phone the insurance company and ask "can I have a new phone now". Not that I'd ever do something like that :).

I believe they call that "insurance fraud" and it's illegal.

Is there any max age to insuring your iPhone?
I got mine in december 2008, so it's about 16 months old.

Trying to decide whether I bother getting insurance before I buy the new one in June/whenever.
    Also it's a 16gb iPhone 3g, it cost €569 at the time.
However now I believe it's less? Do I only need the insurance offer for up to 500? (as it states resale value?)

    thanks

You have to show the insurance company that you made a report to the Gardai that the phone was stolen or lost by having a particular section of the form filled out at the station, if I recall the form correctly.

That's correct. More hastle than it's worth.

It's insured. Simple. Make the claim.

You just say it slipped out of your pocket while running or on steps (concrete) in case they examine the phone & wonder why it looks like it's been used as an ice hockey puck!

That's why you paid insurance. Use it :D
