Irish stations not working...

Where to start.... My brother lives in my nans he has sky plus upstairs and over the weekend he had a mate put in another box downstairs for my nan.

He had a card sent out from sky and the new box is paired with the card, all stations are working on both boxes with the exception of all the Irish ones (RTE TV3 TG4 3E) and comedy central.

Now does anyone know why they would have all went, it's just a blue screen when you go to them and its saying no signal is being recieved and to plug out for 1 min and try again.... tried this but with no luck.

Any help to avoid paying the 100 quid engineer charge would be much aprreciated cheers!

Is the problem on both boxes??
I suspect that your brothers mate knocked the alignment/ skew out a bit when he was adding the new cable for the 2nd box.
I'd recommend contact a local independent installer rather than ring sky.
P.M. me and I'll get you a number.

Rubbish, we've had trouble with it for two years. We recently had a new dish, new boxes and all new wiring put in (by an independent installer) and low and behold the Irish channels keep breaking up on both boxes. Everyone I know has the same problem. I don't mean to be smart but I'm tired of paying money to be fobbed off with sorry excuses.

Point out the sorry excuse i made..??
I gave the op advise as i am i the trade.
The problem only appeared after his brothers mate had a go at a self install.

You can verify that your independent installer did all work he claimed to do??
And i seriously doubt that EVERYONE you know has picture break up, pixelation and no signal on the Irish channels...
What planet are you on mate....??

I call bull**** on everyone you know having the same problem. I receive RTÉ from the exact same satellite as you do and I have no problems. Might I add that it's the same for everyone I know with Sky.

    Well said Kbell

MyKeyG - you're very foolish to be paying for a service you're not happy with for two years, two whole years?

Gaz15 - Is it in both boxes or just the box with the new card?

I didn't, my brother is the foolish one and he only dragged his feet because he was charged 200 euro callout fee, then the tech kept us waiting three months. My cousin has the same problem with her service and my neighbour often loses 50 per cent of her channels. If there's a gust of wind in the air forget about it. You can all pat the other guy on the back till the cows come home but nobody is going to convince me there is a transmission issue in my area.

These are box numbers 4 and 5, with the wiring having been changed three times. I'm only going with stats here.

There's no transmission issue in your area, there is an issue with your, your cousins, your neighbours equipment and the quality of installs over there.
Who charged the €200 call out fee and who is this "tech" you speak of??

Yes I'm more than happy to blame the tech but if I mention his name I get blocked from the Satellite threads for two weeks. They're happy to install your service take your money and head off into the sunset. I'm not going to enter into a flippant debate with you but it's just a very common and infuriating sitution that when you ask for advice customer service always like to suggest it's something the customer has done.

Not asking you to name and shame mate.
You and anyone else who has dealings with this company or individual, should steer clear and take your business elsewhere.
    Hope you get sorted.

Being charged €200 for a call out fee is lunacy. There had to be alot of work involved? A three month wait? He'd want the dish wrapped around his neck so he would! No one is trying to convince you there's a transmission problem in your area.

Was it the same company that did all three installs?

Nobody here is trying to convince you of this, satellite tv does not work that way. I think you should direct your anger at whomever is responsible for your problems, it certainly is not anyone here.

To be honest my original reply was very petulant, I genuinely apologise. And I certainly didn't intend to direct my anger at anyone here. I just happened to be watching something I was looking forward to seeing at the time I replied and it was really breaking up.

Here's my problem. The first guy told us there was water getting into the main wire and that's what was affecting it so he changed out all the connections and gave us a bill for 200 (which I only found out recently when I was hassling my bro to call them back in). The second guy told us the box wasn't updating because we were plugging it out at night and that's when they update so he changed the box. The third guy told us nothing at all. Call me gullible but when you don't know what it's about you buy whatever a tech tells you.

I used to think it was the dish since you can see it from my brothers bedroom and in a breeze the little reciever thing (forgive my terminology) wobbles debending on how bad the weather is but the last guy changed EVERYTHING and still no joy. On a law of averages surely one of them would have nailed it.

I would humbly appreciate any advice since I'm quickly losing faith in some of these so called technicians.

Ok, please tell us roughly where you are located and i'm sure someone can recoomend a competent technician to identify and resolve the problems you are experiencing. Frankly a bill of 200 euro is outrageous given that the problem was not solved.

You're in good hands now, anyone Tony recommends will be of high standard and will show quality in their work.
Let us know how you get on anyway.

One other thing, can you see the route the cable takes from the dish down to the reciever??
Is it a direct run down wall, across roof etc and through wall, or is is entering attic space and joined to pre existing cabling in the walls of the property?

The dish is mounted on a high chimney and the cable runs from there down the chimney across the kitchen roof externally and enters direct through the livingroom wall 12 inches or so from the box.

Will give Tonys guy a go and let ye know.
