Ext. HDD Mounting Problem

    Hi Folks,

I have an Intel Mac Mini which for the most part has been wonderful to me down through the years however recently it has gotten quite tempermental and I am now on the verge of putting Snow Leopard on it. However before I do that there is one particular problem that Im hoping someone here can shed some light on.

I have an Ext. HDD connected via USB which typically mounts to /Volumes/Untitled however within the past two weeks for some reason it will automatically change its mount point to /Volumes/Untitled 1 or /Volumes/Untitled 2. The only reason I can think of why its doing this is that obviously the drive is mounted as Untitled but some reason it looses its connect and when it reconnects OS X says oh we already have a media called Untitled so you must be Untitled1 and mounts it accordingly. The thing is the Mac is running 24/7 and I ocassionally send it to sleep/hibernate but it has no problems waking backup.

This is a major problem at the moment because an incorrect mount point is being used all of my downloads are put on the internal 80GB drive (with about 25GB spare) which fills up fast. The reason being my torrent clients are set to use the Ext. HDD but when it remounts under another name the torrent clients then use the path they have in their settings which is /Volumes/Untitled but as Untitled is not an Ext. HDD (because its now called Untitled1) the folder for /Volumes/Untitled is created and everthing is save to here quickly eating up the HDD space. As you can imagine that happens pretty quickly and then my Mac falls over.

After a few nights of Googling I have found absolutely nothing so I thought I would post it here to see if anyone has any idea whats happend or to get some feedback.

    Dave
