What are the consequences of tearing down or defacing election posters?
The above article doesn't mention the legal consequences or the outcome.

Maybe he had forgotten that the election wasnt over yet ?

Not sure one can be charged with being a snotty scrote.

I think election posters are considered "Public Property" so defacing or destroying them is certainly a crime. Its made more serious by the election and his father of course.

IIRC during the last local elections, there was some discussion in the media about the legality. I understand the Dept of Justice/Gardaí said it was a matter for the Dept of Environment and the Dept of Environment said it was a matter for the Dept of Justice!!

So essentially it's very unclear. I'd expect if someone was to remove election posters and store them (without damaging them) it'd be almost impossible to prosecute them for anything. I'd be interested to hear (informed) legal opinion on it though.
