Balance the California Budget

Here's a cool little app on the LA Times website I found whilst hunting for something else.

    http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-statebudget-fl,0,95571.htmlstory

The State's deficit is some $26bn. The applet allows you to select from a list of the major proposed suggestions (Click a category, click a cut/tax, and it'll add to your 'plan' on the right, and change the deficit meter accordingly).

It really isn't easy, and shows what a mess the State of California is in right now. I've put in some $12bn in cuts, $3bn in new taxes, and have another $9bn to make up somehow, but I don't really like any of the other alternatives. I must make some tough choices....

[Edit: My final solution was $13.2bn in cuts/sales, $10.8bn in tax increases. Ye Gods, it's ugly.]

    NTM
