Now... I don't have a huge amount of knowledege about satellite and FreeSat.

But I'm involved in TV channel that is currently buried in the EPG of NTL digital.

I want to look into the possibility of putting us on FreeSat.

What exactly would be involved in this, and can anyone give me a general idea of costs?

Might also want to do it for a radio station as well.

    Thanks.

    freesat only provides an EPG
You would have to arrange your own carraige on astra 28.2 or eutlesat 28.5

Then it's a matter of paying freesat to be included in their epg.

Bear in mind i'm not in the game, and i'm only repeating what i've read on other threads/forums

I understand there is a £30k annual charge for appearing on the Freesat EPG, in addition to your carriage charge

Ha. Sort of figured it would be pretty expensive.

Will pass the info on anyway.

Given your channel could go from less than possibly a million viewers in Ireland too, well a fairly large rise in viewers when taking in the UK market also - it's not really that large of an investment if you can swing things with advertising and open up further advertising markets in the UK to cover the costs and make a profit. The investment of appearing on the FeeSat EPG along with the carriage charges for the Satellite itself might make it all worthwhile in the medium to long term.

Proper business planning time before you jump in though, or indeed before you rule the option out. :)

    don't rule out freesat.
It's a good service, and only likely to grow in the current economic climate.

I'm only guessing here but surely the carriage charges will be even more than that.

Freesat is £30,000 per annum for an EPG slot.
Sky is £79,000 per annum for an EPG slot, without encryption.

Then you have to add-on the cost of leasing space on a transponder, paying an uplink provider to uplink your channel and paying for a way of getting your channel to the uplink providers teleport.

EPG slot on Freesat is £30,000 per year for TV channels and £5,000 per year for Radio channels plus £1,500 registration charge.
