got e1700 ave for hf last dec. probably looking close to the same if not more:D:D this spring have 30 - 40 cows or hf to sell in the next month

as you know from before you get what you pay for.

if a lad rings me saying he can get cows at say e1100 and mine are to dear, i will tell him to go a head and buy them, and come back to me next year when he has less than 50% of them left

on your life dont buy from the mart:eek:

and does he always come back to you , what price you pay is no indication of survivability , some sellers over value thier stock and some under value them and when it comes to the mart , its whatever happens on the day though i do agree that the quality of animal is rarely up to standard in marts

    best of luck with them

bought 4 RBx last night for 5000 never had them before and will be interested to the calves from the lm bull

not a liquid producer like your self I look to the calf to supplement the milk cheque

true irish bob, price dose not indicate quality, but it is some times an indicator. and a good cow varies from person to person
ive seen at times, a batch of 30 cows offered to a buyer, and in my eyes he picked the 5 worst out of the batch. but thats the buyers decision.
if you buy a cheap cow then your expectations of her probably wont be that high, in turn living up to them.

as for marts, i value the health of me herd to much to go near them, on the rare occasion i have sold through them, nothing comes home.

i think there is still a big shortage of dairy stock this year and for the next few, fingers crossed.
would say what whelan1 paid is about average price, or just below

what sort were they whelan1.,,ped,yeild, solids, age, breeding, health status

just bought 8 friesian type calved hfrs yesterday, privately in south munster. all AI bred out of recorded cow and all were recorded themselves and all had protein above 3.5% and fat above 3.85. Paid 1500 each for them. so happy enough.
definately wud not buy from the mart value my herd health too much. all hfrs bought wer tested for bvd nd wer clear.
some lads in cork with stock bull bred heifers and not recorded dams are lookin for crazy money out der, i wudnt have em at all.
