it seems they have found a way to make degradable plastic from biomass and food crops ... i think its good but will these effect in a big way and will it be more eco friendly and will company apply those technology is they work.. hope large cooperation work on more eco friendly biodegradable plastic im just sick of all the plastic around us and in the oceans .. hope are more involved abut these things coz plastic is dangerous to our health..

While it may be seen by some to be good news, if these plastics are to biodegrade successfully, then its unlikely they will do so in landfill as the anerobic conditions in landfill have shown that even paper does not biodegrade effectively in landfill.

If people think a bag is biodegradeable it seems they will take more of them and, perversely, more will then end up in landfill.

i think the more important point here is that this plastic is more renewable than plastic from oil going forward. Maybe not as useful for a broad range of applications though

Sure, but the disposal of the material might also be a consideration. It's possible to make non plastics too from biomass, and I'd rather use a hemp bag many times over many years, rather than a plastic bag with a vastly shorter life, for example.

agreed but I meant more along the lines of rigid plastics, though in work so haven't clicked the link and read what they may be used for and not used for.

yea ur correct.. but we can be sure that even slowly these biodegradable plastic will decay rite compared to the other harmful plastics..
and these biodegrade plastic wont have much of a effect on the environment..if its bio degradable we know slowly but surely they will decompose and be more eco friendly...

So how come newspaper often doesn't decompose in landfill?

Lack of air, moisture, sunlight and microbes.

Better to use the paper in some form of biorefinery.
