Like Vision D'Etat for this one. Hes around 5/1 I think. Anyone else have any opinions on this race?

I like vision d'etat too. has been in very hot races best form of the lot i'd say.

His performance at ascot was amazing coming from last to win it like that

At the prices, I'm stuck on three but still not comfortable!

    Gio Ponti
    Gitano Hernando
    Red Desire

Fingers burnt on Crowded house twice so think I'll steer clear. This one could be his day though, two seconds and going the right way. Not sure it will fall right for him again.

The Japanese horse Red Desire won easily in the Maktoum Challenge - very easily. Handles Dirt and Tapeta.
Gito Hernando i feel won't be within 10 lengths of these.

Mastery should run well and if crowded house was under the care of someone else he'd be a classic winner by now, Crowded House would be better off running in the USA.

The form says Gitano will be there abouts. Beat Colonel John by a nck and Richards Kid by 1l. Colonel John was 4l behind Zenyatta in Nov. Every chance he'll improve as he has done with every run so far. Maybe you think his odds should be longer but he ought to go well

I think the Gitano form isn't that good. He won a prep race for the Breeders Cup against horses who surely weren't 'fully wound up'. Yes it was a Grp 1. and yes it was a good effort on his behalf to win in California.
Meydan is a totally different track to Wolverhampton OR Santa Anita OR Lingfield.... Tight tracks which help those who can barely make a distance.

I think it's amazing how UK horses can be so short when over in Dubai. Crowded House is at 12/1!!! Rate him a bit higher than Gitano... Red Desire at 8/1--- KAAAAAAAACHING :D

Gloria De Campeao is the one for me in this race. Finished a neck behind Red Desire after just getting caught on the line last time out.And beat Forgotten Voice over a mile the time before that.Finished 8th in the World Cup last year but i do think this horse has improved for the switch to Meydan. Really cant see this horse being out of the first 3 places and 16/1 about him is easy e/w money!! Also think that the 8/1 about Red Desire is too big a price. Rev fc with these 2 has to be done!!

Any of 6 could win it. 5lbs in the ratings won't make a difference. You just don't know who'll turn up on the night.

Changed my mind at lat minute and went for red desire @ 8-1.

Gitano Hernando is improving rapidly. Hes lightly raced and has been minded by Marco Botti to the last. You say he won a trial race for the breeders cup which is true but he won this comfortably imo as in the turn for home he got slightly boxed in and both colonel john and mine that bird are very highly rated in the U.S. Kieran Fallon gets on brilliantly with this horse and likes him a lot.Looked on good terms in the donkey derby race he won recently and has been solely aimed at this race since he was ruled out of the BC. Whether hes up to true group 1 standard its debatable but he'll definitly act on the surface as he seems better on the artificial surface than turf.
Vision Detat won a farcical prince of whales imo.The crawled for te first mile of that race and sure he quickened well to win it but all he beat was tartan bearer and never on sunday. Both only average group one performers.
Red Desire won r3 of the maktoum challenge.Again this race was ran at a crawl and he quickened up very impressively and won tidily. Was 3rd to vodka in the japan cup which is high class form but i ant see this being enough to win this race.
Twice over has been screwed by the draw but is a high class performer who has contest against some of the best on the planet on more than one occasion and has improved confidence since he was beaten by VD in the POW.
Crowded house is the potential fly in the ointment. If frank spencer decides he'd like to actually give the horse a chance to win a race he'll be a major player. Before last season this was to be our supposed superstar but things didnt work out but still has massive potential and brian Meehan knows what it takes to win this race.
Gio Ponti has possibly the best form in the book with his second to Zenyatta in the BC and is a live threat. Very little between him and twice over.
Gloria de campeao was 2nd last year but was beaten out of sight and i dont think is quite up to this class.Sure was only just mugged by red desire but as i said that race was run at a farcical pace and not a truely run affair.
    to conclude i'm going with
    Gitano Hernando for the win
    Crowded House 2nd
    Gio Ponti 3rd.
    easy really :D

I think the thing GOING for Crowded House is JOHN VALEZQUEZ will be the pilot.... A serious step up from Frank Spencer....
Downside - Meehan is still they guy in charge of him. 90% of his horses are placed very poorly..
I'm surprised at how TWICE OVER is so high up in the market - regardless of draw. My theory is bookies know punters disregard overseas form (except the bare minimum like Breeders Cup races) and can make some easy money off people backing the UK horses.
Vision DEtat did make up ground off a slow run race - going against the grain there.
I mean a Japan Cup 3rd form not measuring up to this lot!! :D

Mine that bird was uncharacteristically slow away and never got into it after that. He won the Preakness I think.

Correction, that was Summer Bird, Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby. The last to first in the mud. He's been disappointing since.

Am I missing a beat here or do you guys mean Jamie?

Is there a non-Lasix factor that should be considered? The American Horses won't be running to form surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭smartaform

Yes, it is JAMIE.....However he acts like Frank when in the saddle.
But he was jocked off here yes?

Not all horses in the USA run on Lasix. You'd need to check in drf.com or Equibase to see if they ran with lasix.

Yeah Velasquez is booked for the ride.

I dunno, I'd guess at over 90% of them do at one time or another.

I'd say Kevin Shea feels like a right muppet now the way he was celebrating! Didn't back anything in the race but have to say Gitano Hernando looked a little unlucky got no sort of a run at all but whether it would have won who knows!

Yeah had a nice e/w bet on him!:)

Anyone see Willie Supple chasing after Soumilon in the weighroom? Really, they shouldn't really be having cameras in there. It was after the interference he caused to Supple while grabbing the rail, not too bad but had to snatch up all the same. Hes probably p****d off big time over losing the Deegan job and wanted to take it out against the cocky jock.

I taught fallon gave the fav a brutal ride had him in a great postion and then pulled him back and dropped him out why do that in a slow pace

I backed him too, easy to blame the jockey when talking through a pocket but Gitano needs to come off a fast pace, Meydan is like Lingfield, nothing happens til the turn in then its a sprint for home, not a great track at all.

I was waiting on him for a nice double i just couldnt understand he had him in a great postion and then he pulls him back and drops a few places why when the pace was slow
