Anyone know whats the story with youtube deleting music from some videos and not others??

I have a few up at the minute and they featured one recently but didnt delete an Ian Brown audio I had running over the clip.
Anyone know why they are letting me leave this song on the clip and not others??

They take into account your location etc. The video might be blocked in other areas and whoever asked for the take down might only have jurisdiction in a particular area

Ah right, I have found it incredibly hard to get definite information regarding this through researching google etc

Do you think if I submitted the video as a request for them to feature it they would delete the audio?

It isn't youtube who want to remove the sound. It's the respective companies who hold the copyrights so you may have just got lucky and slipped through the net..

THEY have to take down, or remove audio from any music video if requested to by the record company.AND they dont have agreements with all record companys to host music videos ,copyright is complicated.
I used to watch videos from dion, and now find most of them are deleted from youtube.HAVE a look on veoh or dailymotion, you might find the song there.
THEY have automated programs that check all videos 4 copyright material and flag it ,for removal,or review..

Not necessarily, only if the copyright owners spot it will it be removed.
So if it's featured the chances of that happening is pretty high.. Otherwise it's normally fine..

I've noticed more "Official Channels" for artists which means their "official" videos are deleted from the main pool or whatever.

AFAIK its to do with copyright. Wasn't there a case with Universal (maybe not them) when they were looking for money from youtube for using their songs/videos?

They have an official library of songs approved by the labels which you can use your choice of song on your video. If its there in their list of approved songs and you choose from their list, all legit. Its that popup add 'buy this song' that appears at the bottom of the video.

If you didnt choose it from there, they will remove the audio!

That list they have is called 'Audioswap'.

They have actually some sort of software that recognises the music. For instance Prince. I think they rights holder have to ask them first to list the songs up there or something but I guess Prince threatened them so much with lawyers that it is why it pics up Prince very well. It is automatic - or at least half automatic. It is not a perfect system though. No system is.
