    Vendee Region

You will have no trouble with the company. They are well known and pretty well established.

I have stayed at Port Bourgenay and if you have children hire the largest house you can as both the houses and the apartments can be a touch on the small side. Also try and book a house on a quiet part of the site. Its not about noise, rather you will get close to one of the small pools as the large one with the water slide can get pretty busy.

If you go before July all the facilities and entertainment may not be open as they wait for French and U.K. kids to get their holidays.

The food on site is O.K. only. Its handy for something cheap and cheerful. If you want nicer restaurants travel for 20 minutes to Jard-Sur-Mer, Talmont St Hilaire, or Les Sables D'olonne. Les Sables can only be described as Tramore, but tastefully done. A couple of minutes drive from Port Bourgenay is La Belíere which is a small amusement park for kids under eight. Nearby is also a motor museum and for the couple of € entry it is well worth it.

The climate is fine. The Vendeé has its own micro climate. It will generally have fine weather in the summer months.

Further afield with the exception of La Rochelle, most trips will be long day trips or overnight stays. Examples would be the theme parks at Le Puy-Du-Fou and Futuroscope. If its worth anything my five girls gave Le Puy-Du-Fou a big thumps down but they loved Futuroscope. A good drive away is Saumur which is a must if you have any interest in all things military as it has the most fabulous tank museum.

Overall it is a great place for a holiday, I prefer Normandy or the South West around Bordeaux and Toulouse, but if you have kids they will be occupied for all of the trip and at the end of the day thats what counts.
