    Hey all,

We're particularly delighted to finally get this forum off the ground - we've put a lot of work into it - it's a forum where you can talk to representatives from the TalktoEU initiative and the European Consumer Centre.

We're welcoming two representatives to begin with who will help you with your queries:
    • TalkToEU: John - for all your EU questions and queries
    • ECC: Caroline - for all your consumer right issues when buying goods or services from another European country.

They in turn will be joined by a host of other members from their teams to help answer your queries.

For those of you not familiar with the TalkToEU initiative, it is a campaign funded and supported by the European Commission Representation in Ireland, who along with the European Parliament Office in Ireland, are based on Dawson Street Dublin.

    The TalkToEU initiative centres around
They also use social media to communicate and engage with citizens about EU related issues.

John and Caroline will be answering your questions, offering advice and giving responses to the issues you may raise.

Please do check check the forum charter for what they can answer questions on.

On a personal note I think it's pretty cool that an initiative like TalkToEU, that has the backing and support of the European Commission Representation in Ireland will make this resource open to Boards.ie members and offer us this resource so I hope it will be as valuable as we think it can be.

    Thanks

    Darragh

Can you tell me if anyone within the EU has registered a European citizens initiative? And if so what topics? I understand that you would post any initiatives on the EU website but I can't find any.

    Hi Corsendonk,

The regulation to enable the European Citizens Initiative (ECI) has not yet been 100% decided upon and has not been enacted. It is hoped that ECI will be fully in place by the beginning of 2011 with the first petitions being submitted shortly afterward.

The current status is that the European Commission has drafted a proposal on how to implement the ECI. This was after a public consultation.
Some finer details have yet to approved before the legislation is enacted and approval is granted by both the European Parliament and the Council.

You can read more on the status of the ECI and its implementation proposal here
