I'm trying to fix a Vista machine for a mate that was on a system repair loop, not booting windows at all. Managed to make a recovery disk and get windows going again but I am constantly getting a "Sensapi.dll" error message, any ideas?

    Cheers.

What exactly does the error message say?

    According to
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistarepair/thread/115c8059-d0f3-4797-9d95-8b4ea9e58f25

sensapi.dll is associated with the System Event Notification Service and if it's missing or corrupt, and you have the Vista install DVD ready, you should run the system file checker to replace it as per the instructions at the link above. This can take about an hour to complete.

It's the same error message as the one posted in that link. Running the System Event Notification Service now but don't have a Vista install disk, only the recovery disk I made from this link.

The scan is finished and I got a message saying that "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them".

That CD won't do as far as I know?

    So choices...
might you be able to borrow a Vista install dvd from the same manufacturer, or a retail dvd?

Otherwise, you need to figure out what files are at issue.
Running sfc will have added entries into a file 'cbs.log' stored in
    the windows system folder\logs\cbs\

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228

Search for entries in the log containing the line
"Cannot repair member file file details"

If we get the full details of each file, we might be able to help replace the files.

    Worst case:

you could have a gamble and try installing the latest vista service pack and hope that it succeeds and does more good than harm.
    Back up everything first.
