PC, Win XP + DVB-T & S cards

    Hi

new here so apologies if this in in the wrong forum.

I've been using my PC (Win XP) with a Hauppauge HVR 1100 (RF and DVB-T) for some time, just using the analogue NTL feed. Now, I've installed a satellite dish (for FTA) and an antenna to pick up the signal from 3 Rock (we're in Dublin).

So, I've added an OEM DVB-S card (shows up as a DM1105) from ebay.

Both cards work as expected (can scan in the channels) except the DVB-T on the Hauppauge, with WinTV 7 I'm getting audio on the digital TV stations but no video.

So, two questions for the board brains trust

    1) Is my DVB-T lack of picture but with the sound a codec problem?
    2) Can anyone recommend a good software program to use as a tuner that supports multiple cards from different vendors that will allow me to access both the DVB-T and S channels?

    Cheers

You need a H.264 decoder installed on your system to be able to view Irish DTT (also BBCHD, ITVHD and LuxeHD).

Have a look here where I've mentioned some of the better H.264 decoders and TV viewing / Media Center software for Windows.

DVB Viewer is excellent and well worth €15.

If you are after a full blown media center type interface, then Media Portal is good, or if you are running Windows 7 then Windows 7 Media Center is very good too.

Personally I use Mediaportal on a full blown HTPC system and it's super. Can you post your system specs ram, graphics, cpu etc and if possible a link to the DM1105 card on ebay , it will help with further advise. For a H.264 decoder I recommend DIVX7 h.264.

You may have some issues with those TV cards you mentioned. I'm not sure but I believe those DM1105 cards on ebay are supplied with WDM driver. WDM drivers on TV cards do not work well with applications like Mediaportal or DVB-Viewer. I don't know much about the HVR 1100 card, is it supplied with WDM or BDA drivers ?

TV cards with BDA drivers are recommended for use with applications like DVBViewer and Media Portal.
