    Hi All,

I am looking to start a website and was wondering if anyone could give me pointers with regard to who would be best to build my site?

Also its my first time trying anything like this - can a website be created with a .ie domain relatively cheap?

Appreciate any help which can be given.

What do you require out of the site? Do you want to sell items on there, or just have general information?

    Hi,

The site will eventually encourage people to subscribe for the use of the website - It will be purely service based so no physical product involved. I know I will eventually need paypal involved to facilitate subscriptions but for the first year or more it will be free to use with a simple register process.

Hope this answers the question without giving away what it is :)

    Cheers

You'd be able to make this yourself with limited knowledge really!

A subscription based site - where members of the public will willingly register, to in turn receive a serivce.

Without knowing a little more detail, it's really hard to gauge the cost of such a project. A .ie domain is about €30 a year. (Some require that you are a registered company - Although, that seems to have laxed as of late.)

The website design itself could range from anything between 500-2000, depending on whether it has dynamic content or static. If the website involves indepth and unique scripting, you could be looking beyond that. It's really hard to quote you it based on the above information.

Perhaps if you linked us to a site with similar functionality, we could quote you better.

Is Wordpress out of the question? I know that there is a premium plugin that will facilitate paid subscriptions and Wordpress in general is very impressive

To create and graphically customise Your e store way You want - it would cost 500 euro /frindly Polish designer would do it/. That includes one flash /moving/ implant.

Then every so often you want to customise it - add 50 euro each time to change the "season" on the site, add banner, change special offer.

.ie domain, no problem. There are several restrictions though - business name set up at least - another 45 euro together.

Perhaps you might try adverts.ie if you're trying to plug a sale for him.

I am considering setting up an on line store as well. Few evenings of work gave me a bit of light on the subject.
i dont want to throw links /so i dont try to upsell anything ;) / but there are few places on the net where You can download software and DIY it. They charge per month - 30 euro upwards. it may cost a bit of time. you can customise designs but then You need to hire a graphic des or DIY it again. All based on pickyourown.com
Anyway - for PC literate person it shouldnt take more than few days to make it all up.

BIG hello to everybody, i havent introduced myself yet.

You would be better off going to the web design forum there is a thread for this kind of thing

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055802922

Or else post on adverts.ie looking for someone to do it.

Make sure that you check out the portfolio of whoever you are considering. There are some godawful designers out there!

Thanks, All the advice is much appreciated. I have found one or two sites online and checked through their demo's - quote approx €150 which my gut feeling tells me is a litte cheap.

Basically I'm looking to have a site which will also incorporate a forum & ability to profile search through it's members.

I have done a little research regarding the domain (.ie). Can anybody tell me if there are any hidden costs aside from the rental of this name?

    Cheers

Nope, 30 euro for the domain for a year - and then obviously hosting costs on top of that to host your content, and a name-server for your domain. You're looking at about 5 - 20 euro a month for hosting, depending on your requirements. I've hosting for a euro a month (have been with them for nearly 10 years, not one problem), but I don't want to name drop on here.

From personal experience of running forums I've formed the opinion that vBulletin (which boards runs on) is the best of the lot. It's one of the few that you actually have to pay for but it's worth it in the long run.

If the website you want consists mainly of a forum then seriously look into doing it yourself. The setup of the forum couldn't be any easier when you follow the instructions. There are plenty of extensions/plugins available for the major forum softwares that will let you build a fairly comprehensive site without even seeing code.

Don't waste money by getting some web dev to put together the forum. Spend that money on a good forum software instead!

Thanks again, Does anyone know where I could make my own unique site online or an Irish company who would charge reasonable prices for same?
