Starz are really pushing the original scripted drama:

    http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/03/22/starz-serves-up-king-arthurs-round-table-in-new-romantic-adventure-series-camelot/45670

Starz continues to bring unique event programming to audiences in the U.S., securing rights to “Camelot,” a wholly original approach to the timeless Arthurian legend, from the creative team behind such landmark series as “The Tudors,” “Life on Mars” and “Torchwood,”

“Camelot” will be based on Thomas Malory’s 15th century book,” Le Morte d’Arthur” – still considered the definitive work on the subject. But that’s only a starting point; “Camelot” will weave authenticity into a modern telling of the Arthur legends that is relatable to contemporary audiences.

Important note: The series will be shot in Ireland, with post-production to be completed in Canada. Starz has all U.S. rights – including home entertainment and digital distribution – to “Camelot”; GK-TV will handle the rest of the world.

It's hardly going to look very authentic with underground trains running past in the background, is it?

Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green have been cast in Starz's 10-part Camelot, the network announced on Thursday.
Fiennes will play wizard Merlin in this new take on the Arthur story. Green will portray powerful sorceress Morgana.
Also in the cast are Jamie Campbell Bower and Tamsin Egerton as Arthur and Guinevere, respectively.
In discussing the four actors, Starz President Chris Albrecht said, "We've got actors who can bring real passion and intensity to their roles."
Production should begin in late June, with a premiere set for early 2011.

Agreed. Joseph Fiennes is a has-been. I can't recall any good movie he has been in in the last 5 years or more. I used to like he earlier work a lot and had high hopes for him but somehow he changed focus.
Joseph can be be quite funny just like Carol Burnett used to be because I did see him in a theater show years back where he had impressive persona karma in that play. Maybe the big budget movies somehow took away his charisma?

Hi, i was in there today (Wednesday) and filled out the form etc. I spoke to the guy who takes the sheets for a few minutes and he told me he thought i would be very suitable for the battle scenes. He then put the letter 'K' on my sheet and sent me through for the picture.

As far as i can remember he didnt put the K on the guy in front of me, but i cant be certain. Anyone else have this happen to them?

this tv series is been filmed in ardmore studios ireland, this week. the construction manager (ed Norton) who is on for this job has blacklisted a few decent hard-working family men, whom have worked in this industry a long time. As a result there is now a protest ongoing on the gates of these premises. last week one of the construction guys who works in the props department drove his car at a protestor and kept going back inside the building leaving the poor guy to be carted off in an ambulance. the production manager and the construction manager are both very aware of this incident and whats going on outside. its an utter disgrace, the main problem is a few men were promised work by said construction manager and he never followed through on his word he said it on front of union representatives and nothing has come of it only men been hired who have never worked in the industry or have never been part of a union up until the first day they were hired. here are men who have been paying thier dues to the union for years weather they are employed or unemployed and this is the thanks they get - them on a gate and criminals who assault people working away happily. the main man who brings all these films and the likes into ireland is standing by letting all this happen is he as bad?? Ardmore studios should be renamed GANGSTERS PARADISE. Iv to pass this picket on a weekly basis and am not one bit happy about it and then to work with the sc-m that are inside. they should be shut down.

Ardmore studios aka --> GANGSTERS PARADISE. hit and run on a protestor outside thier gates last week leaving the protestor to be hospitalized, while the sc-mbag went straight back inside ardmore to continue working. blacklisting going on by the construction manager Ed Norton making promises of work and not following through on his word.

Chris Chibnall has revealed that he has planned several seasons of new Starz fantasy drama Camelot.

The showrunner told Collider that the series would take its inspiration from Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur.

"We have a grand plan, which...will allow for multiple seasons," he explained. "We're starting right from the birth of Arthur, and we'll go through and try to tell the truth that lies behind the myth."

Chibnall confirmed that the show would present a realistic take on the Arthurian legends.

"These are the events that could have contributed to these myths, because myths grow, change and shift in the re-telling over time," he said. "What was interesting to me...was excavating what it might be like to have lived then and how these stories might have come about."

However, he admitted that characters such as Merlin (Joseph Fiennes) would still experiment with magical forces.

"The magic is very much a part of our storytelling," he claimed. "What powers Merlin has, how much he can control them [and] how that plays into his character, is really [an important] part of the story."

Camelot is expected to air on Starz in early 2011.

RTÉ Claims Irish Rights to 'Camelot'

    http://iftn.ie/news/?act1=record&only=1&aid=73&rid=4283495&tpl=archnews&force=1
RTÉ has secured the Irish broadcasting rights for ‘Camelot’. The 10 x one hour series will premiere in the U.S. on Starz in the Spring of 2011 and will thereafter broadcast on RTÉ Two. Filming is to wrap this month on the Wicklow-based production with Canadian director, Michelle MacLaren taking on the director’s role for the final two weeks of filming
‘Camelot’ is based on Thomas Malory’s 15th century book, ‘Le Morte d’Arthur’ and looks to bring the saga of King Arthur to modern audiences. The series’ starry cast includes Joseph Fiennes (Flash Forwad), Eva Green (Cracks), Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd), Tamsin Egerton (St Trinians), Claire Forlani (Meet Joe Black) and Peter Mooney (Summer’s Blood).

The series commenced production in Ireland in June and is set to wrap at the end of this month. Starz holds all U.S. rights – including home entertainment and digital distribution whilst GK-TV has been in charge of broadcast rights for the rest of the world. Channel 4 secured the UK premiere broadcast rights to ‘Camelot’ at the start of October and RTÉ’s recent acquisition has seen it join a long list of other broadcasters such as RTL (Netherlands), DBS (Israel) and Sony AXN (Pan-Asia). GK-TV has additionally sold all rights in numerous other territories and regions including; France, Germany, Russia & CIS, Pan Eastern Europe, Pan Latin America, and Pan Middle East.

‘Camelot’ is a co-production between the Irish production company Octagon and Take 5 Productions in Canada, and is executive produced by Ecosse Films’ Douglass Rae (Nowhere Boy), Academy Award winning producer Graham King (The Departed,), Tim Headington (The Young Victoria) and Craig Cegielski. The Irish executive producers on board include Morgan O’Sullivan (The Tudors), Octagon Films’ James Flynn (King Arthur) and the series creator, Michael Hirst (The Tudors). John Webber from Take 5 Productions will serve as the Canadian producer. The series is written by Chris Chibnall (Life on Mars, Torchwood). The series boasts many of the same crew members of ‘The Tudors’ which broadcast in recent years on TV3.

Dermot Horan, RTÉ’s Director of Broadcast & Acquisitions commented on the group’s acquirement of the series, saying: “This is a key acquisition for Irish audiences. The production values are extremely high, the calibre of acting impressive. That it is employing Irish crews, shooting in Irish locations and thus supporting local industry is particularly satisfying. We look forward to bringing it to Irish audiences next year.”

Craig Cegielski, President of GK-tv also commented on the sale, saying: "We're extremely pleased we've partnered with RTÉ, a network that has proven to be the premiere destination for epic cinematic programming, The legend of Camelot continues to evoke the promise of hope and opportunity, something shared by all audiences, which RTÉ will no doubt deliver spectacularly."

Starz Sets April 1st Premiere Date For “Camelot,” A New Take On The Timeless Tale Of King Arthur

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

Network sources have confirmed to the site exclusively the show's debut installment will follow the finale of "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" on Friday, February 25 beginning approximately at 11:00/10:00c.

"Camelot" then will formally launch Friday, April 1 at 10:00/9:00c as previously announced.

Earlier this month, Showtime used a similar tactic to showcase the first 20 minutes of its upcoming drama "Shameless" (due Sunday, January 9) following the season finale of "Dexter" while NBC sampled a post-pilot episode of its midseason comedy "Perfect Couples" (launching Thursday, January 20) after "The Sing Off's" December 20 finale.

Starz however will offer up the full 64-minute premiere of "Camelot."
