    Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some help here. I'm interested in doing a Triple Ironman race, but im having a hard time finding such a race. Does anyone know of any Triple Ironman races around Europe? I'm open to the idea of a double aswell, but i emphasis on the Triple.

    Thanks.

A quick search found this, (August 7th 2010 ) gives you plenty of training time:)

ohhh thanks Highway, wow didnt think there was one so close to home. I actually just now found this link http://www.iutasport.com/?page=races
So found a few races there, i was thinking the only two triple races were in USA and Germany.

Even at that the Triple Ironman in UK is all full... no more slots left :(

zuppylurk has done the triple in virginia in the USA and it comes highly recommended if you were willing to travel.

I don't think that's within my budget... Its a shame there aren't many of these races around. I could only find one in France, but i don't think that is been done anymore. So England seems the only one in Europe. But i also came across a Germany Triple Ironman, but the whole site is in German... So hard to make heads or tails of it.

send me the german link and I'll translate it for you.

It's http://www.ostseekueste.de/triathlon/start.html you don't need to translate it, but if you could find out the price, requirments or anything would be good. :)

    Thanks.

its a secret sociaty race only open to a select few :P

Tunney of course i have done plenty of Ironmans, it's not a race you would attempt without having covered the distance. I've also done a few ultra marathon races, 217km upwards.

A double-deca Ironman?!? You sir are proper insane (I mean that in a nice way).

Best of luck with it! Would be some achievement indeed!

Is this the mexico one? I didn't think they ran it anymore. Best of luck with it. I would love to hear about it. Have you done a triple or a deca before?

Yes this is the one in Mexico, the last time they had it was in 1998. And they will have another classic double deca this year. I've never done a Triple or Deca before, so im jumping right in the deep end here. But it should be alot of fun. I'm still on the planning stage of the trip. But as i just heard, i have a green light to enter it now.

If i get into it, i'll keep you all updated and maybe even write up a nice race report on it.

Best of luck with it. Have you done much multiday stuff before? I can't wait to hear all about the process of getting there and the event itself.

    That's 76km swim? 3600km cycle? 844km run?

    There are no words.

@ honeymonster, yeah i have done some Ultra Marathon's, 2 day stuff. Some long distance swimming and cycling stuff. I don't want to give too much away right now. But i will be sure to fill all you guys in when the time comes, don't worry. You'll see another thread with Double Deca in the title.

It's not a competition here guys... I'll fill you all in with details at a later date. Don't worry. Including times races, training, race report. Don't worry.

I probably won't do this for a number of reasons. Not that i'm the type of person that doesn't want to give away my training secrets, because i believe in sharing the knowledge. But at the moment i just don't have the time to do this consistently. I will however at a later date do a huge report on everything from training/race. Past experience. As i said no need to worry, you will get all the info. So i'm going to leave it at this.
    Thanks everyone.

Reason I ask is if you had said a slow time and a fast course my response would have been "Would you not think of doing an IM properly before a triple?"

Sure but you have to remember they are two separate events. Ok most people don't care about there time in the Ironman and some people do. But i can say 100% that in the Double Deca nobody cares about their time. It's an endurance event. Just need to complete the race in 28 days. That's good enough. I don't care if i do it in 22 days or 28 days.

I just have to say there is a difference here. For example i guess what some of you see as extreme and Insane, i don't. This is like the age old question. Why? Why do these races. I know alot of you guys do Ironman's, so my answer is the same as when people ask you. Why do Ironman's. I do Ultra events because i can. Because i can finish them, because i want to push my body to its limits. I want to break myself and see what i'm made of.

I don't know what Eddie Lzzard was or is or how this thread is related to him. And i don't really care, he done a great job in the marathons. But that's all he done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭dario28

This sounds like the most boring event I have ever read , no idea why or how he did it

    8 days, 6 hours and 14 minutes

    - a 25m pool WTF !!!!

    - laps of a park

    -no finishers tshirt !

Zuppylurk is a mate of Bill Bradley who was mentioned. He was on his boat for the channel (failed) attempt but boy does bill do enthusiasm well! The man is a walking talking red bull!

LOL - you picked up what I meant wrong, I don't see it as extreme and my reference to Eddie was more related to comparing going on the lash and eating icecream during a "marathon" and not caring about your time to the extent that 22 and 28 days were equivalent finishing times :)

I thought I was being remarkably positive.
The only thing that could be possibly construed as negative was my attempt to determine had the OP conquered the shorter distances before aiming for something twenty times as long.

No Bill is the man. I was one of his 'wingmen' or wing nuts at the triple in 2008.

The Virgina triple is the only one I have been to and would highly recommend. One of the best atmospheres of any race I have ever been to.

Thanks, the race won't be until November 14th. And i'm not entirely sure of even racing it this year. So lets wait and see, i'll let you know first if i even enter it. One step at a time.

fair play to ya if you do it and good luck with it if you do it, would you be the first Irish man to do it if you did?

I'm curious, with your stance on people trying to go long rather than fast (i think i remember posts where >3.30 isn't running a marathon and 2hrs30 is a decent first olympic tri ;) ?), at what point do you consider a distance 'conquered'? I'd still be on a track if I had to do a 4minute mile before going for a marathon :D

What is your problem? I was simply trying to determine the athletic age and experience of the OP. Attempting a triple is not something you'd want to do if you are a 16:59:59 IMer.

Someone was recently ripped apart for logging that they were going to do a 10:30 IM off little background but here we have someone going for a double-deca without any history or background to back it up.

As an aside I don't, nor never have, claimed to be an athlete. I used to be passonate about running, cycling and swimming as a hobby. I was never particularly good at any of them and never will be no matter how badly I wanted to be. I've never compared myself to anyone else, and I don't really care how I compared to anyone else, or they to me. If you have an inferiority complex then that is something you should address, you should really be happy in yourself as opposed to needing validation from others.

Quite simply I'd view a distance as "conquered" when the person has done the distance as fast as they possibly can - given their age, sex, history, genetic talent and circumstances.

I possibly have made the marathon and 3:30 comment way back when but not the tri and 2:30 one :)
