Might as well pick a number between 1 and 230, as valid as the HRM.

haha, I dunno.. Some days I love it some days I feel like throwing in a ditch while I'm out. The GPS and pace while running is very good tho'

the 405 (non-cx variant) i have seems quite accurate/reasonable for the HR monitoring, similar figures to the 705. only issue with the non-cx is the 8hr batt life is kinda crap for longer cycles...

What HR strap have you with the 405?

Pretty sure they are all ANT+ straps, should be interchangable.

well its interchangable as i use the same strap for 405/705, but not sure on exact model(no idea if they have changed them in recent times, all online pics seem to look the same anyway)

The issue with the 310xt is mainly caused by the new 'premium' soft strap.

I have the Forerunner 305, got it specifically for cycling and running. It's a bit ugly, but it does the job. As long as you wet the contact points on the HR strap I find that it's reasonably accurate. If I put it on dry though I'll have a heart rate of 30 for the first 10-15 mins. Battery life should be good for all but the longest cycles - it got me through a 240km trip last year without dying.

All in all I'd recommend it - get the cycle mounting kit from Wiggle and it's even better, just snaps off the wriststrap then onto the handlebars.

Its the HRM1B https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10996&ra=true that i have anyway, not a bother with it with either computer... could source one and use it with the 310?

If you have problems Garmin's support is very good in terms of replacements etc.

I have the 405, perfect for running, usable for cycling. have a mount for attaching it to handlebars. Not really pretty but better than wearing it on your wrist when cycling.

usable, but pretty horrible for cycling imo, display is far too small to display a useful amount of info @ a glance ...i guess on quiet roads/cycle tracks or whatever its not so bad but certainly is utterly useless racing :)

Racing you do on feel, you can look at the data when you get home :pac:

the 405 looks like a fecking laptop

im talking about a wrist watch that you can mount on a bracket on your bike like the polar cs300

    even any other make ???

just the connectivity on the polar is shockingly bad

never seemed all that big to me?

The 305 looks like a computer, the 405 is OK size wise and sometimes I wear it as a watch when I commute in to work on my bike and forget my everyday watch. The HRM works OK for me.

I don't find the 405 that big at all, with the foot pod it does everything I want for running and with the bike speed/cadence sensor it does all I want for cycling too, I don't usually look at it while cycling though, it's more looking at the data afterwards.
