Pro Tools LE 7.3 Vista

    Hi

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I've recently purchased a second hand, but unused Mbox 2 with Pro Tools LE 7.3. I'm running Vista Home. on the installer CD it clearly states windows XP or Mac only, I didn't realise when I bought it. I tried to run the installer CD but it tells me I have an unsupported OS. I have a Pro Tools LE 7.4 Updater CD that came with it, but I assume I can't update to 7.4 until I have 7.3 installed....

    What can I do?

I've been on the unhelpful and difficult to navigate digidesign.com website but can't get any help there....

Please let me know what my options are.

Cheers for that mate, I was hoping for an easier option then re-installing my whole system.

Looks like this might be the only option available, which is a huge pain in the rocks.

if anyone knows of another fix please let me know,.,.,

    Cheers

    That's not strictly true.

I can easily playback 30+ tracks of audio on my vista box. And it's very stable.

Them again I don't use the ridiculously picky and unstable PT.

I've known so many people with similar problems...

I've never had to change or re-install OSes to run music software... That's extreme and seems very PT specific.

All of that is based on my experience and is my opinion.

Well from my experience there will come a time when you realize that Vista doesn't cut the mustard.

    Buying a 7 box soon.

Will have had a Vista box for 2 years with nary a problem.

My XP box crashed all the time.

I know some folks don't like it, but I can't get proper answers why.

A little tweaking and it's totally badass.

Like I said, I run Sonar, I have literally 30+ tracks running... smooth as silk.

And I've never had to re-install an OS for ANY software.

I wish more Irish folks ran Sonar... it's amazing.

Cheers for the replies lads, I decided to bite the bullet and rather than change my Os and do that whole rigmarole, I've purchased Pro Tools 8... seems to make the most sense, got a good deal on it too, so hopefully from here I'll be okay.

This is a first venture into recording on a semi-serious note, I've had various other little adio cards running with ableton and the like, but it's always been cracked software and second hand cards, so I've gone and done the full shindingle with the hope of not havibng to cross this bridge for a good while.

Thanks again for all the help.

And as for the digidesign support centre, I don't think I've ever been so frustrated trying to get around it, maybe its my inexperience with phrasing and terminology, but I got really fed up really quick.

    Keep truckin'

    Shaneo.

I'm also beginning to think Vista doesn't, as you say, 'cut the mustard'... there's too many pains in the ass with running so many different things on it. Win7 is obviously the way forward...

    Can you give me examples?

I'm not being argumentative, I'd just like to hear some as I really haven't had any problems and people always think I'm mad when I say that. :P

Windows 7 is miles better than Vista, I'd try and get that if you want something modern. If not, go with XP.
