Hi lads, im planning to change the handguard and outer barrel. Question is can I fit a M4 RIS/RAS kit on the upper receiver of my hk416 just to look like its an m4? Many thank in advance.

Sorry if I've got this the wrong way - but are you looking to change the railed front end of your 416 to the delta ring and rail type of front end that you get on a SOPMOD M4?
I stand to be corrected but this might be tricky. The rails on your 416 connect to the receiver in a different way than on a standard M4. With an M4 you normally (unless you've some fancy rail system that's not the standard) have the receiver end of the rails slotting into the delta ring (the round piece that sits just in front of the receiver which is spring loaded and can be pushed back to access) and the barrel end slotting into either a handguard slip ring or directly into the gas block (which the front sight is part of). I think that to do what you're suggesting you'd need to change out the connection at the receiver of your 416 (from the HK connection to something that will take a delta ring) and also get a proper metal hand guard slip ring and gas block (as the HK gas block might not work/fit - most M4 rails are designed to fit into the correct barrel length from delta ring to gas block, unless they're a free float design in which case they connect directly to the receiver and have no connection to the barrel at all - hence the name).

I know that you can also get rails that connect directly to the receiver and are free float - Daniel Defense version is like this I think - but I don't know why you'd do this if you've a 416, as a free float rail system for an M4 would pretty much look exactly like your current 416 rails.

Hope this is of some help - there are others here on boards who know a hell of a lot more about this than me and hopefully they'll chip in and correct my errors! :D
