Break up advice appreciated

My bf of 2 years broke up with me during the week and I can't stop thinking about him. He is under a lot of pressure with college, pt job and money and has his thesis due this week. We went out last tues night, were having a great time then had a silly fight cos he didn't want to go dancing. He stormed off, slept in the bed with me but wouldn't put his arm around me or anything, kept saying thats it thats it now. Next morning same thing (hes v stubborn). He cried all morning and so did I. Completely lost without him. Asked him if we hadn;t gone out would we still be together and he said yes. Very hard to take. I'm wondering do ye think we have any chance of gettin back together. He said he still loves me but is afraid to text me cos it makes him sad. I'm pretending like everything is fine and I'm looking forward to being friends, and he told me lots of people are asking whats wrong with him because he seems miserable. He said its because we are finished. Surely if he really wanted to break up with me he would feel happy and relieved now and it should be me that is the miserable one?? (I am by the way, just trying not to let him know that). Secretely hoping that when he has thesis handed in next week and a week off college that he might come to his senses but I'm not sure. Any advice on what I should do? He is my best friend so hard trying to stop myself contacting him. Trying to give him space

if he is miserable without you, then why would he consider breaking up with you?
