When do you consider the start of Spring?

In Ireland it's the 1st of February, in Britain it's the 1st of March and in America it's the 21st of March.

I think America probably have it right.

    when the daffs come out.
    when people look happier.
    when the days get longer.
    I love the spring

Today is the March equinox so I suppose it's a good time to call Spring. According to Wikipedia the March equinox is the astronomical start of Spring but it's the 1st February for me because then Summer comes earlier.

I'd say now, sun's shining and I don't feel the need to wear my jacket outside.

When does a child become a teenager?

They're a hardy bunch not stopped by anything. They just wrap up warmer. Always in the parks regardless of wind, snow or rain.

Although it could be a sign once they stop wearing hoodies and start wearing Jerseys with black nike gloves. For some reason the gloves only come off in summer.

half way through the month of feb is what it feels like to me, then half way through may summer starts, half way through august autumn starts and halfway through november winter starts.

Is august summer or autumn though i've always struggled with where that month sits.

Spring came VERY late this year. I've never seen it this late.

August is autumn, not cause it's cold or anything, but because it's a harvest month I think. At least I think that's how we organise things. The yanks do it by temperatue etc?

For me, no specific date but WELL after 1st February - February still feels like winter to me.

    Early March at the earliest.

It obviously starts on 1st February but that doesn't mean it feels like spring, until well, it feels like spring.

True once the Manchester, Liverpool and Celtic shirts come out it's a sure sign of Spring. The odd sprinkling of chelsea skank also

I was looking at the Met Eireann website stats there, December, January and February are the coldest months so I think we can rule out 1st February as the real start of Spring.

You are right in that this has been a cold March. The average temperature this month has been 3.9 C whereas the overall average for March is 6.3.

The rainfall this month however has been very low, the average for March overall is 53.5 mm but this month the average has been 6.2 mm.

Also August is a summer month in terms of temperature.

When I shave/moult my full bread down it's official spring. I did that last week.
