Torrents seem to be allowed now. Let us rejoice in an orgy of bandwidth-crippling porn downloading.

Is it a trap as in I'm full of sh*t or a trap as in CSD is deliberately luring people to download stuff illegally in order to catch them? Because it ain't the first.

So instead of keeping quiet and hopefully keeping more bandwidth to yourself, you decided to tell the masses of boards?

In anycase I'd discovered that a week or two ago, but I reckon CSD have either made some sort of mistake in the proxy conifgs and it'll be fixed soon enough, or they have a reason/need to use torrents themselves.

I am not a greedy douchebag. Plus if CSD decided to report people for downloading expensive software and movies and stuff, my own downloads would be buried in the noise. Strength in numbers and such...

Speeds are already being affected IMO. Curse you torrents!

ISS did some work last week to make life a bit easier for gaming on campus from campus res, this might have unblocked torrents as a side effect.

I'd suggest not abusing it too much - as soon as someone from ISS/CSD sees this it'll probably be blocked again.

    No, I'm not from ISS

Don't shout it around, ISS will hear.
Just appreciate the bandwidth before they realise their mistake

What's there to appreciate, slower speeds for the rest of us?

Being able to go "Damn, I don't want to pay X for this program."
Or "Let's see if I'll like this, I'll buy it if I do"

But still, everyone has the same IP/connection, messes up everything. The glory of living just off campus with, what seems to be, an unlimited download limit and a terabyte external hard drive. :smug:

Not just torrents unblocked for me.
I seem to be able to ssh out without using the SOCKS proxy (and not just to redbrick which always worked), also I can use the web (or at least get to google, which is all I've tried) without having the proxy set.

I'm hoping this is a decision they've made rather than a mistake, since it's far more convenient now, but can't see that being the case.
Also the fact that this thread is called "Torrents on campus" and so far no-one has noticed (or at least mentioned) other things now working is a sure sign that this lenience will see nothing but abuse :P
