Been with Sky for the best part of 15+ years and having got a new Full HD TV would like to make the most of it by moving to the Sky HD package and box but really peed off that they want 60 Euro to connect, twice the charge for a new customer!!! Bearing in mind how much I have paid these guys over those years plus the extra 15 Euro a month they will get from now on is it worth haggeling about the 60 Euro and has anyone got a result from trying. I`m still with NTL for the next 8 months but have heard such bad reports about their service and back up dont really want to sign up with their HD packages. Any advice?

    Sky shaft existing customers.

They subsidise new customers, and charge the people who have been loyal to them even more, on the premise that inertia will stop those people getting pissed off and changing (plus Sky's restrictions on re-signing up).

It goes completely against anything I learned about doing business - which was to look after existing customers - but Sky aren't the only ones to do it.

Thanks, that seems an option but it still annoys me having to go down that road at all

Loyalty means nothing really. Sky need more and more subs to maintain growth so they have to entice them in with the best deals. Long term Sky subscribers are likely to stay on, so it makes financial sense to not offer them the best deals.

    Hi DavidKay

Your paying €60 for sky to come out and fit a quad lnb to your dish a second cable and setup the sky+ HD box for you.

The sky+ hd box and quad lnb is yours forever.

    €60 sounds ok to me.

    Exactly dun79.
If these people were in the trade and knew the work involved, price of cable and equipment and the commission paid to us from Sky, they'd be singing a different tune!
Liam Byrne being a prime example, moan moan moan......

OK guys, did`nt realise there was as much involved in the installation thought it was a plug in and go job and 60 seems OK for what it seems has to be done, but it does not answer my question that as a long term and loyal customer why am I am being shafted for twice the cost for this proceedure!!! I reckon I will bite the bullit and pay up aint worth getting my knickers in a twist over the extra 30 Euro Thanks for all your replies Guess the big guys win again but come the revolution who will be first against the wall!!!! Thanks again

From experience, the only way existing customers ever get anything out of Sky is to call up and cancel Sky and then "their manager will talk to them and allow them offer you something to stay".

Always the same, I know about a half dozen people who have gotten deals for new customers by calling to cancel and say you're moving to another provider.

If you are subscribing to multiroom, the installation is down to 30 yoyos. See http://www.sky.com/portal/site/ireland/products/equipment/hd
