    Hey,

Just an update if your using Bitdefender watch out for latest update.

Bitdefender updated as usual this morning and suddenly every file it scan is marked as Trojan.FakeAlert.5 (including bitdefender itself). I had no idea what was going on and internet searches proved unhelpful until i noticed I wasn't the only one
The forum has now gone onto 11 pages with people who had issue deleted the files (or they are in quar) and now their machine doesn't start.

They released an update to fix this but it hasn't worked for me so I have to leave off my active scan. Anyone else with this issue?

    From http://ow.ly/1oUXG
    False Positive on X64 systems
Due to a recent update it is possible that BitDefender detects several Windows and BitDefender files as infected with Trojan.FakeAlert.5 .
In order to solve this issue you will have to perform these steps:

    - open the BitDefender interface in Expert Mode
    - go to the Antivirus tab and disable the Realtime Protection permanently.
    - go to the Quarantine tab and restore all items that are detected as Trojan.FakeAlert.5.
    - reboot your PC
    - open BitDefender in Expert Mode
    - go to the Update tab and run an update.
    - wait for the update to finish and enable the Realtime Protection that was disabled earlier.

If, however, your Windows can no longer boot properly you will need to perform one of the 2 actions below:

    1. Use Last Known Good Configuration
    - reboot your PC and press F8 repeatedly until you reach a text menu
    - choose the last option on the bottom of the page named Last Known Good Configuration

    2. Use System Restore

    Thanks for the reply.

I got in contact with a helpdesk eventually, they advised me to do a system restore. That went fine, but when I then tried to open BullDog to turn off the antivirus and return items from quarantine, it told me I did not have permission to access that path!

Tried to contact the helpdesk again, no answer.. They did say that a lot had contacted them about it throughout the day. I will try again tomorrow, hopefully it will be easier to get in contact and more information and advise may be available!

Thanks for the update... luckily I know enough about computers to have followed these steps already (anything that was put into Quarantine I moved back straight away once i realised the nature of it) so any restart went fine as Windows 7 handily recreates those files that were quarantined.

But has deffo put me off BitDefender... time to move onto something else.
