    Hi lads,

    I'm planning on changing my current car to something newer.

    Was thinking of a 05,06 focus. Have about 6 grand and my 98 corolla to trade.

    What are these cars like? What engines do you recommend? Are they economical?

    I would prefer a 1.6 petrol or a diesel engine as Ive driven the MK1 1.4 and it's very weak.

    any other suggestions welcome! :D

    My advice is to sell the 98 Corolla privately, that way you can get a better deal off the newer car because you don't have a trade-in. A 12 year old Corolla will be worth very little to a dealer, I reckon privately it will fetch around €1k.

    Regarding the Focus, the MkII Focus is even heavier than the previous model so forget about the 1.4 litre as it is simply underpowered. Try and find a 1.6 litre either petrol or diesel depending on your yearly mileage. On your budget you would probably have more chance of picking up a 06 1.6 litre petrol than diesel.
