Not sure of operators but having been a few times I'd recommend Luxor as a base. U can do a day trip to Cairo where you fly up and down on the day for about 100 each, which includes coach and guide etc. Valley of re kings, Luxor temple etc are all close. No beach near but most hotels have nice pools on the roof IMO.
I'd avoid staying in Cairo and I hear red sea resorts are nice but have never been.

    Sharm el sheikh is gorgeous.
There are direct charter flights from Dublin.
Though if you go onto somewhere like ebookers.ie,I've seen great deals at say the 5 star radisson for about €700 per person for a week including flights via london.
you would have to fly up from sharm for to see cairo for a day aswell but it's doable.
Mount Sinai is very popular for to see the sunrise and is a 2hr drive away.Hotels do packages to it.
St Catherines, the oldest monastery in the world is there.

The beaches are great and downtown is like any of the 18-30 holiday towns.
A lot of the nicer hotels are out towards the airport with the nicest one being the four seasons.
But there are plenty in town.
It's a great diving and snorkeling resort with warm to hot sunny weather most of the time.

The main resorts aren't near the sights. The holiday companies go to Sharm el Sheikh. It's a really lovely resort on the Red Sea, very luxurious. It's famous for the diving there. I would recommend Falcon. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel, go to the Hyatt. I stayed there 2 years ago, it's really lovely. Luxor isn't as nice to stay in but there are a few nice hotels there too.

The pyramids are in Cairo and Valley of the Kings etc is in Luxor. You can fly to these using Egypt Air. I would recommend booking the trips through Longwoods (http://www.longwoodholidays.co.uk/) which is who we used.
