Right so, got my first AEG ordered and enroute from the friendly folks at SEAirsoft, a JG G36c, and i'm like a schoolboy waiting for the thing :D Anyway, having been reading around and generally immersing myself in all things airsoft, i've come upon a question with regards to Camo.

Now, theres a huge range obviously, and my preference is black chest rigs/holsters etc over a greenish~ camo, not pinned on specifics yet (i also like alot of eastern european looks), but i'm just curious as to whether (assuming I take this that far... and even so, will be a while before i buy it all) i'm shooting myself in the foot with regards to partaking in skirmishes? How common is it that games are penned to a specific camo style; further, what is the most common if that's the case? To be honest, i'd end up going for what I like myself at the end of the day, but i'm curious..

I' e only started out, but there aren't many sites that need a specific camo, except Mil-Sim sites, and if your part of a team.

The one thing I will say is, but a camo that will work in the woods. I have played on 2 separate sites, thinking I was alright with my gray hoodie and O'niels. I was not. Everyone else had Wood;land type camo, and I stuck out like a sore thumb when people were finding targets.

So, whatever camo pattern you get (I recommend British DPM) Make sure it actually works

Wear what you think is cool/practical/comfortable (but mostly cool!).

In most regular skirmishes it doesn't matter what you wear as you will be randomly assigned to one side or another. Some sites use coloured armbands to seperate the sides. Only when you come to MilSim-type games is camo type more relevant, with 'tans' Vs 'greens' for example. Also, most teams will adopt a particular camo if you find you want to join a team down the line.

For the moment don't worry about it and just wear what you have - sure with the new trend for the PMC-look just about anything nearly qualifies!

Just try and avoid this look as it doesn't really blend in with many environments:

hah, yeah few save the girlfriend will be seeing it. I'm based in Waterford but I don't have a car so will be relying on offers of petrol money/beer to someone local to make it when time comes for the first skirmish ;)

I didnt read any responses but i thought i'd get my few words in...

I recommend getting a few cheap even second hand stuff to start off! and play a decent amount of time and notice your game style, other people equipment etc. ask people to take a look, ask people to try it on! as people for opinion on what they are wearing! what they think the advantage disadvantages are! if it is comfertable! etc.
Keep the airsofting going and if you have a huge interest in Real Steel aswell, then you'd probably spend hours googling pictures aswell like me!
after a certain period of time you will know what you want, and maybe even a load-out!
i kinda think this would be a way to have what you'd want in the future without wasting money on somthing that you may not like in a few weeks or months! as i made this mistake!

    just my 2 dolla!

    talk to people!

    xXx

Although what you personally like does play a large factor, you'd find that those more deserty camos aren't too effective at hiding you in Ireland, particularly in forests. If concealment is more important to you than aesthetics, take a look at MARPAT (similar to UCP but brown and green) or CADPAT, which might be close to what you like. Otherwise, have a ball in whatever you want. :)

Stay away from ICU sorry I meant ACU unless your planing on running around a quarry. You can been seen from space wearing that stuff :D

Hmm, have to say both are growing on me. Looking on flecktarn.co.uk the CADPAT is a bit more then I want to pay at this stage, being £35 each for jacket and pants, but the MARPATs not too bad priced.

    Might look into that

Unfortunately Bulle MARPAT fades like crazy; it was the first set of camo I bought and one wash had it faded a lot, and I've heard the same complaint from others too. Apparently they're fine for other patterns (although I can't attest to it) and their webbing and pouches and all are great, but if you're after MARPAT, look elsewhere.

What shane said bought a set of marpat off flecktarn washed it on a cool wash faded pretty bad , worse case ive seen in any brand of camo

if you looking for Marpat get the Helkion Gear marpat ,pretty damn good quality and identicle to the USMC issue marpat it should set you back around 60-70 for a full set of shirt and trousers you will pay roughtly the same if you buy from ebay after shipping and taxes

Had anybody had any luck finding CADPAT at a reasonable price? Flecktarn.co.uk sells it the cheapest i've seen but hasn't got many sizes at the moment..

Wow thats a good price for the fullset... theres a canadian fella selling genuine military stuff (i'd expect it wouldn't fade to fast) for pretty cheap, but i'm afraid about getting stung on vat/customs charges, that guy being based in australia im wondering the same... If the vat wasnt much from there i'd get it and not worry about it fading because it's so cheap... if it was going to end up expensive i'd get the genuine stuff and have it last.

Might ask them both, cheers for the link!

Emailed about the vat situation to airsoft eagle, reply was 'We will send out the item within 2 days after payment recieve. It normally takes 10-14 days for shipping. However, Easter is coming, so the shipment maybe delay.'

    Not the most useful response..

VAT is 21% of the total cost of the order, regardless of where it comes from. Once its coming from outside the EU, its subject to VAT that you'll have to pay on delivery, unless its under a certain limit which I cant remember now. its pretty low though....less than 50 euro if I remember correctly.

For clothing, theres also an extra few percent for import duty. A good rule of thumb is to allow 25% for VAT, duty and courier admin fees on the cost of the goods plus shipping.

Whether or not you get hit for it depends on how its shipped - if its by one of the big courier companies (Fedex, UPS, TNT etc) its guaranteed. EMS seems to be just luck of the draw.
