Finnish Divorce recognisable in Ireland?

Just wondering if anyone can help?

My partner was divorced in Finland and we are currently planning our wedding in Dublin. The divorce papers have been submitted to the registry office but they've told me today that the divorce papers will have to go to the legal office to determine if they can be accepted and recognised in Ireland. From what I can find on the internet, it has to be determined if his ex-wife has been notified of the divorce, but it was her that initiated it, and he received the notification, and on the divorce ruling, it states that she paid for the divorce....(Joint responsibility bill: her name)....Is this enough, I would really prefer if she had no part in my marriage/wedding.....can anyone shed any light on this?

    Any help much appreciated.....

If one or both of the people divorced were resident in Finland when the divorce was applied for / granted, were entitled to be divorced in Finland and the divorce has been finalised then it is likely that Ireland will recognise the divorce.

Any qualms, talk to a solicitor specialising in family law - preferably one with a Finnish link / experience. Talk to the relevant embassies if you want suggestions.
