How bad are the Galway Footballers?

I was at the Galway v Kerry game in Pearse Stadium and it is shocking to see how bad our footballers are. This is no fault of Joe Kernan as the writing has been on the wall for a few years. Remember last year when Sligo should have beaten us in the Connacht Championship and all the other mediocre teams who knocked us out of the championship since 2002.

The area where we are really suffering is in the diamond of centre half back, centre field and centre half forward as we are winning practically zero possesssion. Our backs are giving away far too many frees and there seems to be a complete lack of discipline amongst the players in general. Some of our more experienced players are also showing zero leadership on the field and are living on past reputations. On the other hand we are badly affected by injuries but in reality we are a Division 3 team at best for the moment. I expect things to get far worse before they get better and relegation to Division 2 will be a good reality check for us. Unfortunately, a lot of Galway football supporters still have their heads in the clouds from the halcyon days a decade ago.

For the 2010 I predict the following.

    * Relegation to Div 2.
    * Get beaten in the Connacht Championship (we will be lucky to get to the final).
    * Get beaten in our first qualifier game.

In 2011, performances should improve if Joe Kernan stays on but there could be a knee jerk reaction to fire him as 2010 will be a disastrous season.

Good win tonight against Dublin, we moved the ball very well, big change from last year when we couldn't string 2/3 passes together without coughing up possession under no pressure.

Concannon had another good game to add to last week's against Tyrone.

Great save by O'Connell when Dublin were up by a few, could have left us with a mountain to climb

....Just sickened by Kerry, had a treble with Cork/Kerry/Galway and it got shot down with the last throw of the dice. I'm not in favour of this ''ball out of play after injury time is up'' rule.

The first game i saw it implemented between Derry/Tyrone didn't end well, Tyrone were behind by a few and Derry wouldnt put it out, so the Tyrone players started lashing in heavy hits which will be the cause of a brawl.

What time was that Tyrone goal earlier?... i believe time should have been up?, what's the point in having added time if a game could go on for 5mins after, imagine a team scoring a winning goal, point after 5 odd mins, should have left it as it was, it's not a slow sport like Rugby

Also players don't seem to know the specifics, Kerry player had the chance to put it behind after the first goal chance and put it to a Tyrone player trying to kick it wide(does it have to go out the side?)

And in our game we got a free when time ran out, Dublin could have got a draw with a goal and we kicked it down the pitch and Clancy continued in the corner with it, where does it have to go?.... why the confusion with the players?!

Something that is really starting to bug me though is this new rule about the ball having to go out of play before the whistle is blown. In principle I agree with it because Tyrone were badly stung against Cork last year before half time. But they really need to bring in a hooter or a siren or something, The players have no idea if injury time is up or not.

With us in Kerry we had the case against Derry when Dave Moran kicked it out but there was actually 10 seconds left so they got a 45 and a chance to equalize. Then tonight injury time had elapsed beyond the 3 mins when the first Tyrone effort on goal was repelled. Ball comes to Dave Moran. Instead of kicking it out of ball behind the goal a la the Derry game he looks to clear it. Straight to a Tyrone man. Ball pumped back in. Goal.

The Gaa either need to get rid of this new rule altogether and just have the ref blow it up as normal or introduce a hooter system so the player on the pitch know that they can kick it dead at the next available opportunity. The way it is now is just the usual half arsed idea that the GAA throw out every spring.

There would be no problem selling out hurling finals if there was a hooter in croke park all right
I would only go for the wings of course
