p.s. wot is it with John Donnelly and this TBC (its on Cage Contenders too) I've looked forward to seeing John for a long time but who is his opponent lol:)

John is a very difficult guy to get fights for in Ireland.

Whats the story with JRJJ Paul? Is Merv still 100% for his fight? I heard a story that the club had closed.

John is a very difficult guy to get fights for in Ireland.

I know he is but as a fan I really liked John fighting and glad to see him back but would be interesting to see who his opponents are going to be (I know who I'd like to see;))

Heard the same but does anyone know the truth in the rumour:confused:

I think with work commitments the JRJJ club has temporarily closed although Merv is still training. I hope this is only a temp blip as they were producing some good fighters.

Merv is still good for the final in August.

John Donnellys fight is not confirmed but I am waiting to hear back from an International fighter this weekend so fingers crossed.

I wont be on the boards that much from now on although I will try and keep updated as much as I can.

If anyone wants to e-mail us fighters for first choice preference incase of pull outs drop me an e-mail to phpmcl@yahoo.com stating the fighters name and weight. We apologise for not being able to fit everyone who had asked but we hope to be able to get as many clubs who are interested in the event an equal opportunity on future shows.

We are also planning an Amateur event for Novemeber back at the Glenavon against England, We have plenty of English contacts now to invite a full English D & C class team over. Nothing is written in stone yet but we are taking e-mails now with clubs interested from Ireland.

    Cheers

    Thanks

Huges vs Dom. Mconnell is worth the entrance fee on its own, cant wait for that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭Jason McCabe

Yeah that has the makings of a great fight.

I think Darren has the edge with the experience he has but Dom has the ability to pull the upset with a good old fashioned GNP.

Yeah I just cant see where Dom can win it? its been pretty much proven that Hughes cant be put away! And In terms of technical ability I think Hughes has the edge in all areas but it will be a tough fight all the same!

Hi guys we are about 5-6 weeks out from the Clan Wars 4 event and I am delighted with the support from the Irish MMA community with over 20 different MMA clubs from around the country on the card. We did have other guys confirmed but as always unforeseen circumstances arose making them unable to attend. I am happy to say the guys from England and Lanzarote have their flights booked and are ready to go :)

I have spent nearly all my time sorting this show from straight after Clan Wars 3, we have been getting alot of support which is fantastic and we have top Uk shows scouting talent from Clan Wars so we are achieving what we set out to do in help work together and promote Irish MMA. We have made alot of friends and connections so we hope to bring over some solid fighters for future events for our local guys.

    FIGHT CARD 8TH AUGUST
    (Subject to changes and additions)

MAIN EVENT WW IRISH TITLE 77kg PRO A
Mike Reid (Gracie Barra) v Merv Muholland (IFS)

The main event of the evening will see two up and comers face off for the Irish Welterweight title. Both guys are young, talented and are coming off impressive wins at Clan Wars 3 so expect fireworks in this fight.

LW IRISH ISKA SEMI FINAL 70kg PRO A
Dominic Mc Connell (Strabane MMA) v Hugh Brady (PHK)

This has the making for the fight of the night. Two very well rounded fighters that are well known on the Irish MMA circuit and are extremely talented. Both have fought on the big stage before and always love to give the fans a good show.

    LW 70kg PRO A
Darren Hughes (Sudden Impact) v TBC

Darren Hughes has made it to the ISKA Lightweight semi finals after his 3 round battle with Alan Hannon at Clan Wars 3. His opponent will be decided in the McConnell vs Brady fight and they will fight for the title later in the year at Clan Wars 5. Darren’s opponent for Clan wars 4 will be announced soon!

    WW 77kg PRO A
Neysden Santos (BST lanzarote) v John Donnelly (Ryano)

The Brazilian Neysden Santos is 6-1 and hails from sunny Lanzarote under Vittorio Grant from BSTMMA – The guys from BSTMMA are an awesome outfit and are excited about returning to Ireland to take on one of Irelands best young talents in John Donnelly from one of Irelands top teams, Team Ryano. One of the top 77kg fighters in Ireland this will be arguably the biggest test of Donnelly’s career to date. He will be looking to give the Irish faithful something to cheer about on the night against an International opponent.

    CATCHWEIGHT 90kg PRO B
Wojtek Antczak (Husaria FT) v Michael Nicholls (Mourne MMA)

If anyone hasn’t seen the Husaria guys fight they are in for a treat, they have a do or die attitude that always makes for an exciting fight. Wojtek Antczak faces up against Michael Nicholls from Mourne MMA who is a Cage Wars veteran and a very technical fighter. This will be an interesting match up between to big men.

    MW 84kg PRO B
Tim Mc Crory (Kyoujin MMA) v John Redmond (RUSH)

This is a rematch between two very talented fighters. Both guys have been training extremely hard for this and promise to bring their ‘A’ game to the table to give the fans an exciting fight that they wont forget.

    LW 70kg PRO B
Bogusz Pochylski (Husaria Fight Team) v Connor Dillon (Brazilian Top Team)

Both of these fighters like to stand and bang so this fight almost promises a Knock Out. Bogusz comes off a very impressive display at Clan Wars 3 where he displayed excellent striking skills and aggression. Connor Dillion can boast these same traits and will be coming to knock Bogusz out – expect a frantic fight with a high percentage chance of a Knock Out!!

    ISKA COMMONWEALTH AMATEUR 66kg TITLE
Matt Maguire (Andy Nugent JKD) v Joe Frey (IFS)

Top Amateur UK featherweight v Irelands featherweight ISKA Champion!

This is a huge fight for both these young guys but especially for Irish ISKA Champion Joe Frey. Matt is the UK’s top amateur fighter with 19 fights! Frey will have the chance to improve his impressive amateur record and represent Ireland for this Title match, which could make him the top amateur featherweight in the commonwealth. As always the Irish fans will be behind their local fighter and look forward to seeing Joe take the title.

    C CLASS WW 77kg
Sam Ferguson (Coliseum) v Aaron Flynn (Dog pound)

Sam Ferguson is coming from one of the UK’s top gyms, the coliseum – this gym boasts a never say quit attitude and are know for producing very talented and tough fighters. Aaron Flynn is just as tough and fights out of the Dog pound gym in Newry. – Both fighters like to bang so this will make for an exciting match-up.

    C CLASS HW 93kg
Stephen Lawless (Legends MMA) v Ray Mc Donald (UFA)

This is an exciting fight between two light heavyweight fighters. A classic striker versus grappler match-up, this fight is far too close to call!

    C CLASS WW 77kg
Fra Mc Caffery (PCCB) v Gareth Large (Evolve)

Both these fighters come from well-established clubs that are both doing extremely well on the Irish circuit. Fra and Gareth are both talented guys and this fight promises to be a war.

    C CLASS MW 84kg
Khristoff (Lucan MMA) v Ben Forsythe (Legends MMA)

This is a middleweight contest with two very capable strikers. Expect heavy hands in this fight that will unlikely go the judges scorecards.

    C CLASS LW 77kg
Michael Townsley (Extreme Fighters) v Gary Carlin (Evolve)

Michael Townsley will be making his debut fight against Gary Carlin from Evolve. Michaels team did well at Spartan on Saturday and will want to continue that at Clan Wars. His opponent is Gary Carlin who is a talented fighter from Evolve. Carlin’s record does not do him justice and the talented fighter will be looking for the victory in this promising fight.

Looks brilliant guys. Like the posts too. Wish more promotors would include all the information in each post like you have here with these two posts. I seem to always be searching threads trying to gather together all the scraps of information in relation to these events.

Best of luck to all the fighters concerned.

We are aiming for around November time

    Hi Guys,

We are now down to the last of the tickets, if you are planning on going please get in contact as once the tickets are gone there will only be limited payment on the door available with ticket holders getting in first.

We where at the venue again last night and with all the big screens should be an awesome event with plenty of viewing options. The 24ft cage should be great viewing from all angles also with the lighting suspended from the ceiling so there is no obstructions.

There will also be a fully professional lighting rig and arch with 40ft raised fighter walk way.

The rooms are also going fast at the hotel with only about 10 left so if you are planning on staying please book early quoting Clan Wars for half price rooms.

Unfortunately the Hotel is one of the best in Ireland and the room prices are normally very expensive but they are down to £40 per person from £80 per person.

There is also alot of b&b's at about £25-£30 for anyone looking to stay there.

Thanks for your support, I will keep you all updated on any further progressions

    Cheers

    Paul

Flyers will be passed out, if anyone wants to buy them before they go see the guys in the IFS hoodies :)

Clan Wars Promotions will be looking after parents with children who will be attending Clan Wars 4 on Sunday.

The doors will open at 3pm and parents will be allowed in first with their children for the front row seats.

We have been to a few events where the children can not see because of their size, this is a small step we can make to try and improve on this situation.

We also remind everyone that Clan Wars from day one have been about promoting a respectful positive attitude from the fans showing support to all fighters, we remind everyone again on this so we can all work together and promote Irish MMA for the good of us all wether fighters or spectators!

Limited tickets are available from the Armagh City Hotel and there will be tickets available at the door,

    Thanks for all your support

    See you all on Sunday!

    Thanks

Just home from this event. Was very impressed with the quality, some great fights, and but for a a few horrendous refeereeing decisions, it could have been even better. Some fights ruined by absolutey terrible calls - are these the best MMA referees that Ireland has to offer?

Which fights in particular. You cant complain about the last 2 fights. I was backstage for most of the 1st section though. Thought the redmand fight coulda been stopped earlier but peter had the sense to throw in the towel.

The second last fight was ridiculous. Darren Hughes got tagged and deliberately rolled out of it and the ref jumped in thinking he had been knocked out, meaning Darren got up looking slightly bemused.

The headbutt DQ in the Husaria fight was questionable. And what the hell was Dec Larkin playing at jumping in when Ben Forsythe rocked Khristoff Plona to stop the fight, and then letting it continue when Khristoff said he was okay. Pulling an attacking fighter off his opponent, stopping the fight, giving him time to recover and restarting it? As soon as he stepped in, the fight was over, should never have been continued.

I think it was a darce choke, but didn't put it up there because I'm not certain.

Firstly I have no idea who you are but I will answer your critisisms as I usually do.
The Hughes/Duncan fight was pretty mush an even match up until Peter caught Darren with a knee to the head against the cage.Darren dropped....not slumped....dropped!in my opinion and being closer than most to the action,he was out.To prevent any further damage I stopped the fight.Whether or not Darren came round when he hit the ground is irrelevant to me...fighter safety is.I asked the timekeeper, who was sitting right beside where the incident took place,if he thought I was wrong and he agreed that Darren was caught flush.Darren is a friend of mine and a great fighter,I have reffed a lot of his fights and I dont stop fights on a whim.
Now the headbutt was a clear breach of the rules.it wasnt a glancing blow it was a heavy thump. Now I spoke to Conor after the fight and he knows that he did butt the guy,it was accidental but it happened.I couldnt overlook it so the fight was stopped. In my opinion,Conor was winning the match by a mile up until then but he accepts what he did broke the rules and hopefully he will get a re-match.I think conor is a very exciting up and coming fighter and Im looking forward to seeing more of his fights.
If you dont believe that fighter safety is important to me..as one of the other posters has already stated,I threw the towel in during my own fighters match up as I didnt want him taking any more punishment than he had taken.I may well have lost a top fighter after that but Im not going to stand by and watch someone take punishment needlessly.
Im sure Decky will explain his call in the other match up but as for the best refs that Ireland has to offer??I have reffed a lot of fights and a lot of shows.Sometimes people dont agree with my calls and thats their own opinion.I can stand by every call I make and explain why I did it.I dont hide from any fighter or coach or promoter after shows and I come on any forum to tell the fans why I did what I did.
The people that book me know that I treat every fighter/coach/team/promotion equally.I dont care if you are Randy Coture or a first time d class fighter,if Im reffing your fight, you get the same treatment. If I think you have had enough or are in danger of being seriously hurt,it's my job to step in and stop the fight.
I hope that explains everything to you..........by the way.......does anyone EVER compliment the officials when we do a GOOD job???

1st off i must congratulate Paul and Clan Wars on a great show and very professional set up, as someone who runs a small promotion without all the frills it was nice to see 1 that is aiming to be a really big promotion running such a professional show, im not into the whole lighting etc thing but to the casual fan it really can big up the feeling of the night so well done on a magnificent show and well done on getting a venue which had great warm areas for each corner.

My only 1 bad point which i was going to say to you on the night but did'nt because you looked stressed to say the least! During the John Donnelly fight i was shouting advice from the crowd to John such as Kick, Jab, Shoot etc! all pretty standard stuff, 1 of the security lads on duty came over and told me to keep it down, i asked him was he serious and he was!! i was going to get put out for it, i had not even 1 drink so was not doing anything out of order or anything, this sort of security is the sort that agitates people who are otherwise having fun, lucky he did not go up to some drunk person as he may have got a smack..

On the ref thing, Peter and Decky are 2 of the nicest refs in the business and both are very honest, they will make mistakes in the heat of the moment, sometimes they realise these mistakes straight away and rather than having an ego they accept they made a mistake and let the fight continue, not ideal but at least both fighters fight wont end prematurely, in the fight where the knockdown occured he jumped in to stop it and realised he was in to quick, when he knew the opponent was ok he let it contine, if GnP was part of that fight it would have been over in my opinion but as it was'nt i think it would not have mattered much if Dcky had not jumped in.

On the Knee to the head, he slumped straight down and the ref done what a lot of refs would do in the circumstance, as far as the Redmond stoppage by peter throwing in the towel, he was spot on, all it done was stop the tough Tim from taking an unnecessary beating, John transitioned to choke as the towel came in and said he felt Tim's body felt limp and the choke was just on.

Peter by the way, you lads get told how awesome you are all the time on here! take the stick like a man and get your A game in order for Rush next week!! :)

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Id also like to thank Paul and everyone involved in Clan wars for giving our gym and Kristoph the chance to fight on the show. It was run excellently and the fights i saaw were very entertaining.
I cant speak for declan but in Kristophs fight he did get dropped and when dec went to step in there wouldnt have been any argument from myself or tony. It would have been an early stoppage but not unjustified. I think he would have stopped the fight only for the fact that Kris was up before declan turned around to attend to him. As i said i cant speak for declan though.

I would just like to say a huge thanks to everyone who made the show possible, from all the fighters and clubs involved, for the work my own guys put in, the hotel and staff and all the officials and announcers etc on the day and especially to the fans............The fans were excellent and welcomed and applauded all the fighters including the English guys and the Lanzarote guys, this was awesome to see and is what makes it all worth while for us at Clan Wars.

The feedback has been awesome with everyone asking and emailing about whens the next one.

    Hi Paul

Was a pleasure having you guys on buddy, John did very well and has come on leaps and bounds.

You mentioned about the lighting and the razz mataz but that was one of the only things that let us down this time as the lighting man messed up and didnt bring any of the lights he was asked for. That whole frame was supposed to be covered in lights for the effects we like for the show for the intro music but we made do :)

Regarding the security, I thought they done a fantastic job along with the stewards. We had the security briefed on the high level expected from them - we had the council heavy on for this show doing everything in there power to shut it down, they were going deep into everything and made 3-4 visits trying to find faults plus they approached the head of Police on several occassions also who did a full report on it and even when they got back to the council with full approval and backing from the police the council still pushed it and tried another head constable who basically told them he supported the event and was taking his kids to it lol

We had everything sorted from all the H&S paper work, insurance, risk assessments and full police support so there was nothing the council could do other than visit on the day still trying and throw a spanner in the works.

This was why the doormen where trying to keep on top everything which they did very well but perhaps didnt understand the difference between support and rowdyness, they were erring on the side of caution.

Al in all they done a fantastic job and its the first time I have seen everyone at an MMA event remain seated which made for great viewing pleasure :)
