Anyone have experience of this sort of thing? Once I replace it I don't want it gathering dust around here. It needs some refurbishment so selling it to a private individual probably wouldn't do.

Won't be replacing it for another couple of weeks or so but I'm all about the planning :)

How confident are you theres no private data left behind ?
Otherwise, research ebay/buyandsell/donedeal to get an idea of a realistic price
    there is a price-my-pc thread

To be honest I'm considering simply keeping the HDD and selling it without for professional copyright reasons as well as the usual security ones.

    Thanks for the link!

Probably adverts is the best bet, someone might want it for parts or would refurb with a view to sell on, or the usual seems to be the son/daughters going to college and I ain't spending a load of money on the runt.

To clarify, I'd like to hear of peoples' experiences in selling a laptop that needs refurbishment to a local store of some kind.

Sold an old Toshiba Equium laptop about 2 years ago on eBay to a guy in UK, as long as you state all the faults and that it is sold as described I would recommend eBay for getting rid of it as I had no problems.

Have never gotten rid of a PC or laptop. My old room in my parent's house is a bit of an electronics graveyard.
