General question about traveling

Im going to rome in a week,,I was wondering can i use my ulster bank credit card,BOI atm card over in Italy.Id prefer to have too much cash on me at any given time.

Secondly when i return to ireland,how many cigarettes can i buy..I heard it is 200,so do you think id get away if i either brought back 3 packs or else get 2 and split a pack between me and a friend

I used my credit card as an ATM card in Italy. That worked fine. I wouldnt be sure about actual ATM cards though. I find they dont work half the time in banks in Ireland, let alone abroad. Best thing to do is ring your local bank branch and they'll tell you pretty quickly.

No idea about the fags.

You can pretty much bring as many smokes back as you wish.

Just saw it here..is it true i can bring it 800 fags???..like i dont want to buy them in the airport and then find out that half of them will be taken off me

The rules are very simple: You can bring as many cigarettes as you wish as long as they are for your own, personal use. If you are a heavy smoker and bring 2000 cigarettes or 3000, you are not breaking the law. But Revenue might get suspicious and question whether you are carrying them for your own use indeed. This is where the number 800 comes in. Anything up to 800 is considered to be likely for your own use. Anything above is considered likely to be trafficking. So up to 4 cartons, they will give you no hassle. Above 4 cartons, they can start asking questions - or even sue you in the worst case. If the fags were for your personal use, you would probably win the case then... but I guess that is hardly worth the hassle. So best stick to 4 cartons maximum.

The number 200 (which is one carton) applies to a few select Eastern European countries. That list keeps getting shorter as the prices all over the EU get more and more similar. Places like Poland or the Czech Republic used to be on the list but no longer are. You can now safely bring 800 cigarettes from there as well.
