Can somone who knows how these things work explain why when you get a quote from a dealer for a car, the straight deal price is considerably lower than the "scrappage" deal price before you apply any scrappage bonus?

For instance I have been quoted approximately 15,000 for a straight deal on a car, yet for the exact same car I am quoted 16,800 as the starting price under scrappage?

Is there really that much administration or cost involved in scrapping a car to justify 1,800 in the difference?

I really am curious as to how this works. Thanks.

Hells bells, I hope you are wrong on this. I just paid out twenty grand on a new car with scrappage on an old one, and it never occurred to me to ask what the price would be without scrappage:eek:

Regardless of scrappage, the full retail price will always be about that much higher than a straight sale. That is why most of the dealers are offering to match the scrappage offer with 1500 extra reduction etc.

A scrappage deal where you would pay full retail less the scrappage amount would be a very poor deal tbh.
Most of the scrappage prices though now are pretty much cut to the bone due to competition though.

I started a thread on this, hoping more people will post quotes.
