What happens when the insurance company writes off your car?

Last year I was in a crash and damaged the wing and lamp on one side. The repairs were more than the car was insured for and the car was written off by the insurance company because it wasn't economically viable to repair and they sent a scrappage guy out to collect the car. I now see that the car is for sale on the internet in the same condition it was in when it was taken away. Can they do this?

They scrapped it and gave you the money, it's their car, they can do what they want. It will probably be sold for parts

Yes the insurance company now own the car and can do what they want with it.

It's likely a scrapyard bought it off them and is selling it for parts.
