    Hi all,
    I am a leisure runner ( 10K in 60-64 minutes pace). I run 2 / 3 times a week
    a

I have always just used a cheap pedometer which clips on my waistband for measuring distance. I want to buy a new gadget and would appreciate some advice.

I know that the cheap pedometer is not that accurate and I regularly calibrate it, using a 1K circuit that I have measured the distance of.
I do need a digital stop watch / runners watch as well. Wouldn't mind a HRM, but not too bothered about this.

    My budget is sub-100 euro.

    Options are

    1) Buy a HRM / stop watch and a clip on pedometer ( cheap)
    2) Nike Sportband or similar (medium)
    2) Push the budget to 160 euro and buy a GPS based system.

    One of my questions is
Is the Nike Sportband really any better then a pedometer clipped to your waist and they are both only counting steps. If I go with this option, any recommendations.

I dont need a GPS, but I'm a bit of a measurement fan, and I like the idea of the accuracy. Also, I have no plans to up my distance to more than 10K this year, but might in the next few years, so a GPS system might help me with a training plan when running further.

    any advice welcome,
    Thanks

The Sportband means you can upload your runs to a Nike site that includes tracking and challenges, and it will show where in your run you went faster and slower etc....
... but it's basically a pedometer. It's not very accurate.

I've a HRM/stopwatch, which I really just use for the stopwatch bit. I map on runs, on mapmyrun  , and get distance that way.

I think I'll get a Garmin in a few months. I'd like more accurate distances, especially when I'm running a new route and may wander off the plan, but also so I can pace myself better.

I ran for over a year using just a stopwatch and mapmyrun. Once youre doing the same routes, youll know how your times are coming as you do them.

I have a garmin now, and the main benefit it gives me is it tells me my current pace so I know where Im losing speed on a set route. ie, currently I need to work on hills. :)

So if I were you, Id wait and buy a gps when money allows, otherwise, check your distances on a mapping system and time them.
