I sent my pasport off to apply for a Visa by post to the Indian Embassy a few weeks ago and have not haeard back from them.

I have tried on numerous occasions to contact them by phone but to no avail.

    It is hugely frustrating.

    http://indianembassy.ie/app/sites/indian_embassy/index.htm

I have tried all the numbers from their site, obviously from
the consular section especially but all you get is an automated
answering service with press 1, press 2 for ..... options etc.

I have tried every option and you get through to " a please leave a message with your name and number and we will get back to you ''
service but despite leaving my name and number no one has returned my calls.

I have also tried via email.

Has anyone else had similiar experiences?

I am not close to Dublin otherwise I would go to the embassy in person.

If anyone has an alternative contact number or anything I'd greatly appreciate it as I need to get my passport returned asap and this
is driving me up the wall.

    Thanks

Thank you, I will that's very good of you to offer.

Does anyone know who you would make a complaint to in relation to
this? Would be it be the Ombudsman given that is a government related department or would it be regular consumer affairs?

I am not in the habit of making complaints but in this instance I feel
I have no choice, I would urge anyone curious to try the contact
numbers given on their website and see if you can get through to
anything other than an answering machine.

I dont think you can actually make an official complaint, as its the indian government your working with.

I have those thanks but it's ridiculous, answering machine every time.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Surely i can't be the only one on here who is trying to contact them.

I had this problem with that embassy a few years back. I called in one morning in person and they had my passport back pretty sharpish.

OP view this delay / frustration as merely a beginning to your Indian journey- as you'll find when you go things work very differently in India and you just gotta go with the flow.

    Still an annoying situation nonetheless

I had a simular experience with them.

You wont get anywhere, you have to call in to them to sort things out and then put up with some stuck up twit from an upper class section of Indian society be as awkward and unhelpful as possible. Much like every aspect of Indian officialdom really:mad:

Rant Over:D. The country is a dump too, you would think they would try harder given what awaits the tourist when they arrive.

Myself and my girlfriend are now in a similar situation. She is going travelling on the 4th of January and they have had her passport for the last 5 weeks. We're down in Limerick and with the roads the way they are we would be reluctant to head up. Does anyone know anyone in the embassy or even a direct number as we have left many voicemails? Any help would be much appreciated.

I had the exact same problem in September, they do not answer the phone. What I did was use the contact page on their website (http://indianembassy.ie/app/sites/indian_embassy/contact.htm) and they got back to me to say that the passport was ready.

They will not post it down to you unless you provided them with a stamped self-addressed envelope (registered). Once they confirm the passport is ready you can either send a friend in in your place with a reference number that they will provide you with or call in yourself. In a rush you may be able to get a courier to pick it up, in the end I drove from Limerick to get it myself.

    Hope it helps.

Finally got through to the Embassy this morning after nearly 2 weeks or phoning the main visa number every day.

I simply dialed the number listed on their website, 01 4966792. Then, rather than selecting the option for visas, I selected the option for commercial queries. The lady who answered the phone for me was actually able to answer my visa query very quickly and accurately off the top of her head.

The email address listed on the phone menu doesn't seem to work at all (got a delivery failure notice).

It took a while but I got there in the end - good practice I suppose for my impending dealings with Indian officialdom
