I came across a documentary of his last night (I think it was a repeat), where Henry spent 24 hours homeless

You gotta admire the man, he has got balls. Anything can happen to people sleeping in streets he went undercover sleeping alongside heroin addicts and their syringes

I remember last summer he reported on an Orange Order parade and it was a great insight into the atmosphere and the attitudes of the people there.

Didn't he also spend three days begging on the street to see how much money could be raised?

I used to think he was a poor man's Paddy O'Gorman but he's presented some good documentaries on Newstalk. It's a shame they don't use him a bit more for these instead of being Moncrieffs roving reporter?

Yeah, he used to be on Moncreiff alot, not heard too often now. I remember a great piece when he tried to beat the cadbury's cream eggs eating world record.

His documentary on the travellers was great, as was his piece on the Tara protestors.

There's a real touch of the Louis Theroux-type, innocent abroad about him which you don't hear very much on Irish radio. I can't imagine Duffy, Kenny or Tubridy phoning up prostitutes or having a colonic irrigation session and being able to carry it off like Henry did.

Indeed, they have a lot more class than that.

Leave the tabloidazion to the tabloids I always say.;)

I'm sure Henry would be shocked/bemused/bewildered that you think of him as tabloidy. He's more a low-circulation, subscription-only, special interests quarterly in a dentist's waiting room, albeit one which for some unfathomable reason decides to do a piece on phoning prostitutes, colonic irrigation, etc.

I love him! Wish he was on air more often.

I don't think he is in the least bit tabloid-y?

I think Henry McKean is very good. Is he related to BBC 2's Newsnight reporter Liz McKean, they cerrtainly sound pretty similar?

It's not often that boards provided a marmalade dropper in our house, but the though of Joe Duffy having "class" (what a dreadful word that is) made me choke, with laughter, on my boiled egg.

I've never been able to get past his breathless manner of speaking. But he certainly throws himself at things!

Is there a podcast of his I can listen to?

Agree that McKean is under utilised. He has a good manner and his segments alway worth a listen.
